Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

What happens to the enclosed trailer when.....

Joan and I are going full time March 2012. Since we've moved into the DP we no longer have a garage for the toys (2 harleys and a jeep). We're considering a trailer large enough to carry both with us, probably 25'-30'. We intend to workamp and will be set up in one place for 3-6 months before moving along to our next location. Joan will be driving our car as we commute between workamp assignments.

I was wondering what happens to the trailer when we get to our destination? Should we expect to pay storage? Is space usually available within the campground or will it be offsite? Anyone in a similar postion that could share their experiences?

It is going to vary widely. It will be rare that you will be able to keep the trailer at your site. Rare - but it will happen some places. Usually you will have to park it off-site. Either in a storage area, or other parking area. If you are working, it is unlikely you will pay storage. If you are just visiting, often you will pay storage for a longer stay. But for less than a week you may not be charged some places.

My guess is that unless you stay in very large high end resorts that you will be parking the trailer away from your rig at least 75% of the time. That is based on 11+ years fulltime and being a workamper. But it is just my opinion, and it is based on the places we stay and work.

Two of the RV Resorts we stay at frequently do not have space for extra, large towed items so things like larger boats and utility trailers end up parked on the street outside of the resort.

Some cities/counties are beginning to pass ordinaces, preventing parking of what is called oversized vehicles overnight on city or county maintained streets.

So like Jack said it will vary.

At a county campground where we stay, we end up paying for two spots because our 5th wheel and truck will not fit in the same camp spot. We offer part of the truck space to RVers with smaller rigs to use since there's still about 25 feet of space left.
