Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We are Dennis & Lupe and Kizer our dog, We aren't fulltimer yet, but just doing the research. So much to learn and ask not sure where to start.

Right now our plans is to buy a 5th wheel and new truck. Now that sounds so easy todo but as we are finding out and you guys already know making the correct selection can be over-whelmimg.

So, just wanted to say HI, and OMG we need your help and expertice so I think we'll be posting lots and lots of Topics :)

What you want to avoid is the thought process that "when we buy our RV and Truck, it will be perfect for us and the way we want to travel". Ain't gonna happen. After purchasing the "perfect rig" you will begin to see/find something that you could have done differently/better/worse or who knows. Most people find they go through at least 3 iterations before settling on the rig that best suits "them". Don't despair, it is all fun, especially the research and dreaming.

If and when you visit a dealership, make it plain to the salesman that you are going to take your time and then do so. Plan to spend at least an hour sitting in the choice of the day and envision different events. Cooking, TV, bedtime, dinner, etc. Then envision all your "stuff" inside the living area, in the drawers, and in the storage bays.

To add even more to that thought, with both of you (all of you) in the coach try to go through your morning routine together. What about dinner, ****tails (drinks, in case the naughty word editor confused you) outside with TV? Inside with friends? Is there storage where you think your large personal items that you bring into the coach will go? Where will you be when you are on the computer? What will your spouse do during this time? Can you both watch TV comfortably with that floor plan? What if you can't put out one of the slides? Will their be pets? How's that going to work?
It may sound a bit repetitive but it's important. Since you have never done it you might not know what to do but you can get a pretty good idea whether you will be in each others way or disturb each other if you are trying to do 2 different things together.

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  You are already getting good advice from the others, so I'll add one little dimension for you.

Pick out your RV before picking out your tow vehicle.  You certainly want the truck to be able to handle (pulling on flat roads and mountain passes and stopping) the trailer with some ease.  Even experienced folks have felt that "X" brand/size truck would surely be big enough, only to find out later that it wouldn't stop the combination safely.  Pay close attention to the GVWR (Gross Vehicular Weight Rating) of both the tow vehicle and the trailer PLUS the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) of the truck for handling all that weight.

As mentioned, ask away.  There are no dumb questions.  Also, with the heat going on lately, consider where you will be RV'ing and seriously consider sufficient air conditioning for the size of RV.
