Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We live full time in a Keystone Montana on the road. This is our second year traveling and working. The biggest thing we would change about our RV is the number of windows, particularly in the popouts. Frankly, they are useless and take up valuable wallspace as well as reduce the thermal efficiency of the walls. If we could order this unit or a similiar unit we would eliminate the "end" windows on the LR popouts, and the side windows by the recliners. You would think this would actually reduce the cost of the unit as walls are cheaper than windows.
We haven't shopped all of the brands and models, maybe this unit already exists?
If you order a rig you can specify which windows to leave out. We have done this. It was no problem for the manufacturer and we even got a slight credit for deleting windows.
I would think it depends on the particular brand you are wanting. I know Carriage is willing to modify windows, but the unit has to be special ordered.
When we toured the DRV factory this summer they said that they will work with you quite a bit. New Horizons is a custom builder, as it Spacecraft. I asked New Horizons about building a FW with no slides, and they said they would do it if I insisted, but they recommended against it, so I would think that leaving out some windows would not be a big deal.
New Horizons will put in any windows...or lack of windows....you want. Why you would leave out windows other than the ends of slides is a mystery to me...but if you build a custom New Horizons you can have it your way. Not just windows - but all interior components, caninet layouts, etc. If you have specific questions about a New Horizons feel free to email me, or ask here.....

Drv also customized our windows, they will delete almost anything one of the few manufactors that will make almost any change. As long its not a structorial supports. But you need to talk directly to a Rep at Drv. Try Kyle Miller, Drv did everything we ask and the price was reasonable. We wish now we would have deleted the window behind the Tv. We also moved cabinets and other interior components. There are very few who will customize, as Jack said New Horizons is one great company also. We used items from three different floorplans to get what we wanted. Drv also is building 43 footers and its on a 15" tri-axle frame. It can also be Customized. I actually suggest going to Howe Ind to the Drv factory and talking with the designers, almost no limit to what you can have built. We already have a list if we ever build again. Good Luck with your choice. Happy Trails....

I second the factory tours. I've seen three different factories so far, with 2-3 more planned for next summer. We're also wanting to get down to see the Tiffin factory too. All of this in preparation for deciding on the class of RV we want for full time living. Of course, these tours are also helping us decide on the brand. Once we get to looking at specific brands we'll probably revisit some of the factories. Actually watching the various parts being made and put together really tells you about the quality.
Of course, if you are going to get a brand new rig, it would be fun to be at the factory and watch your rig go down the line.
