Fish

I was just wondering if anyone travels with fish. How do you keep the tank secure? Is it truely possible to have fish in an RV? I have always wanted to have fish. But I just wonder if anyone else has found a way to have fish and still be fulltime Rvers.

At 8.34 lbs per gallon, I would opt for an aquarium screen saver on my PC rather than carry the weight of an aquarium.  Also, even if you could enclose the tank to keep water from spilling out, I am not sure the fish would like living in turbulent water as you travel down the road.

We had a customer for whom we installed one of our Datastorm antennas and they did have a fish tank in their coach. It was pretty small and fit in the sink while they were traveling, but the fish seemed no worse for wear. I think you would have to have a motorhome or larger 5th wheel to make this practical as it seems the smaller trailers have a lot more bounce to them.

I usually travel with fish. It's just that mine are usually cleaned and frozen!

BTW, I found Nemo.

Thank you! That's great. Janet said you are sick (in between her laughter)!

When I started planning on FullTiming (5 years ago) I had 3 fish - 2 Ranchus and 1 Betta. Saddly my FT plans lived on longer than the fish did. In any case, I WAS planning to take them with me, and I am still planning to put a tank in my RV (when I get it), but still have not yet worked out the details.

Here is what I had originally planned: a 10gal wall mounted acrylic tank in a half-moon shape, mounted to the wall, and only filled half-way (5gal).  This would have worked for the 3 fish I had than. I'm tring to figure out a way to put a locking spill-proof lid on it, while on the road, to be replaced by a standard ventalated one while parked.

My current plan is a 5gal tank, filled to 2.5gal, and 1 betta fish.

The reason for the half-filling is to prevent "overflow" while in motion.  I plan to be parked most of the year only changing location once or twice, so most of the year there'd be no worries abot spillage.

I have heard of people who take their fish with them, esp people who raise show fish which they take across the country to fish shows. Unfortuantly, I have never personally seen one of these set ups or talked to any one who has done it.

Least ya ain't gotta worry about taking them for a walk rain or shine, or pooping on the carpet.
