Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

oil change on Class A gasoline

I'm wondering what I should expect to pay to have the oil changed in my motorhome. It's a Class A gasoline engine, so for oil + filter + work =  $$  ?

Thanks, just want to be prepared.

Vee

Should be priced just like a Ford V-10, which I bet it is. Looking at about 50.00 or so at an oil change shop. May be able to go to a Ford dealer and have it done. A simple telephone call to an oil change shop should get a quick answer.

Or it might be a GM Vortec like we had in our gas motorhome. We got oil changes at Chevy dealers since this was the same engine as in a large Chevy or GMC truck. I can't tell you current prices since we our last data was in 2004 but 53 Merc is probably accurate for today.

Yeah, 53 Merc has it right.  I just saw an ad from Camping World that they charge $49.00 - oil & filter.  You should also be sure to get the the chassis lubricated - the front end, brake system and driveline all have grease fittings.  Not sure if that's included in the CW price.

Me... I do it myself so I know it's right.  Full synthetic oil and premium NAPA filter.

How often do you change the synthetic oil? Is the filter on the same schedule?

Just be sure that you don't fall for anyone's scam that you need to change your oil every 3,000 miles. It's not necessary in a car and it's REALLY not necessary in an RV!

Right now we're only putting about 3-5K miles a year on the RV so I just change it annually.  Even if we were going by the miles I'd probably change around 5K miles.  The filter gets changed with every oil change.

Annually makes sense if you only travel a few miles per year. If you travel more than that you will want to follow the manufacturers guidelines. Changing your oil any sooner is not only a waste of money but a waste of our limited petroleum resources.
