Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

12V dash sockets also piggy banks?

So, today was RV prep day. We spent the day loading it up for the summer and cleaning it. In the process, our daughter decided to test out the 12v dash socket as a coin deposit. She started stuffing nickels and pennies in it. I figured out what she was doing and stopped her at 8 cents. I was able to remove the pennies without a problem, but the nickel got stuck and required some pliers to remove. Well, apparently this shorted it out as well as the second socket. I checked the fuse and it is not blown.

Anyone else had this problem (not likely in the same manner)? Everything else on the dash works fine but there isn't any power to the sockets and I can't figure out how to restore it.

The 12 volt socket has to be fused.  Check the owners manual, there may be multiple fuse panels, some under the dash and some under the hood.

Yes, it is fused...that fuse is not blown.

Sounds like it has an inn-line fuse. Trace the line behind the socket. The imagination of a child is amazing. My grandson decided he would put a dime in his nose. After two days he complained of a runny nose. Then in conversation he confessed he stuck a dime up the nose. Since this occurred on a weekend, a trip to ER was required to extract the dime.

Had the same problem with a 12v socket. The fuse was good but no power at the socket. It turned out that the socket has a fuse on the back side.
