Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Question About Editing One's Posts

I have a question for those of you who are far more educated than I am with doing blogs.  Jo sat down this afternoon and began to read what I had posted in the past.  One of her comments was that some of my posts have a decent font size and others don't.

I know the cause, but I can't figure out a solution for how to fix it.  Here is the situation:

I am using Blogger, LiveWriter, and Microsoft Word.  I first compose in Word so that I have more tools for editing and reviewing.  Once I've written the text and used the other tools of Word, including spelling and grammar checks, I then copy and paste it into LiveWriter.

In LiveWriter, it comes up with Georgia as the default font, which is fine with me, but I change the font size to 12.  Then I add whatever images that I want to include into the posting.  Once I've done that, I "publish" it to Blogger.

Then, the problem comes if I want to edit the posting after it has been published into Blogger.  If I go into the Blogger editing functions, it doesn't allow font sizes based on a number.  In the Blogger editor, the sizes are smaller, small, normal, large, and then whatever.  It defaults to "Normal" and that then makes the font size after editing to be smaller.

When I attempted to change the font size in the Blogger editor using "Large" as the size, it looked like it would be too big.  In honesty, I didn't actually republish it after changing the font, so I guess I should go do that anyway, just to see what happens with "Large".

But, does anyone know of easier or better ways to edit a previous post?  I will go back to my blog now and post a "test" posting, just to see what happens with the font sizes if I choose "Large."

Thanks in advance for any help or comments.

Terry

Look at everybody else's posts. Nobody else uses italicized type like you do. Personally, I find it more difficult to read than plain text. In my opinion you are working too hard at this. Try just using the provided 'Advanced Editor' and you'll be fine.

I think maybe Terry is talking about his Blog, not his posts on the forum.Terry, I use blogger also and have never been able to use anything else with it.I seem to have a lot of formatting problems if I try to import something from anywhere else to Blogger.Possibly I can get some help also if someone answers your question.

I have never used a word processing program first before Live Writer. I'm not sure which version you are using, but the newest one does have a lot of word processing tools, including a spell check function, so you might want to check that out. If you want to change something after you have published it, you just go back to Live Writer, open that post back up (under the file menu), make whatever changes you want to make, and then publish it again.

I don't cut'n'paste my blog entries so I can't say why the fonts change. I do have problems with images always inserting at the head of the article rather than where I do the actual insert. Anyways, I have had to edit mine from time to time and I find the easiest way is to use the html and edit the code directly.

2Riker2go,

Thanks.  I will definitely try that with retrieving the post.

Dan,

Yours would probably be the best way to go, but I "don't know nuthin' 'bout HTML."

But, thanks to all of you for the replies.  I'm now home from work so I'll go play with LiveWriter.

Terry

Editing the html allows you full control over the data. I've been messing with code for many years and I tend to forget that it took me a long time to acquire what little knowledge I have. In the past I always bought books to learn and keep around for reference. Now that I am in the RV I don't want to be lugging books around with me. Maybe you could find a decent reference at the library? I doubt it would take you long to grasp the basics of html, then you could use internet searches.

Thanks, everyone.  I've done a little playing with LiveWriter and while I can "retrieve" the posting, I can't change the font size back to the original size.  At least not once I've edited the post in the Blogger editing tools.

I guess I'll do some more testing and see if I can change the font size on a posting that hasn't been edited in Blogger.  If it works out that I can make changes that way, I just won't even use Blogger's editor.

Dan,

I keep telling myself that I need to learn more about HTML, but I guess I just have too many other "irons in the fire" to have the time to delve into it.  Maybe once we actually start traveling I'll have time for that.  It never hurts to learn new stuff.

JCW,

Sorry that the Comic Sans MS font is difficult to read.  I guess I need to change to something else.  I suppose the easiest to read is Ariel, but that is sooooo boring.  (Maybe later.)

HTML is not hard to learn. Here are a couple of cool links that I have used in the past that have very good and easy to follow instructions. http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
