Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We leave Friday, March 11 for a 1 month stay in the Orlando, Florida area. DH and I still both work, we are our own boss...so our schedules are flexible. We decided to take off for a month and see how we like living in a 5th Wheel RV! We are going to be close to family and have a wedding to attend during the month...other than that...just relaxing and getting away from the every day grind. I will bring my computer and work some ...most of my work is done from home.
I've been loading up the 5er for weeks...we've taken one short trip already...but going for a month is a first! We are also taking our 13 year old boxer, who we usually leave behind..but didn't want to burden anyone with a month of dogsitting.
Don't know what to expect other than she will be a little extra work...have to literally pick her up to put her in the truck and the trailer and then also to take her out.......she cannot jump up any longer......but I have been taking her for short trips in the truck and trying to put her in the trailer with me while I'm working in there... - which she doesn't seem to like. Just hope that when we are down the road, she'll relax and love it....just being with us! Hoping our backs will hold up!
The last minute clothes and food going in tomorrow and then we pull out on Friday morning...will be driving 1/2 way of a 12 hour trip....hope that is not biting off more than we can do....we will "play it by ear" as they say!
I plan to make entries in my blog....and facebook....should be fun since we are also going to get in a little "Mickey time" while we are there.
Enjoy your stay in Orlando. Lots to do and see in that area.
Safe Travels,
Jim

How exciting! Those fur kids always add a little extra work but more pain in our hearts without them. Good luck to you, have fun, and I will be watching for your posts.
Melstar---great hope you have a lot of fun. I think you will love it, and not want to get out of the fiver in a month. However you very well may want to get out of Florida in a month. It will be getting very warm down there within 30 days. But I'm sure you will have a great time. Keep us informed of how things are going for you.

thanks everyone....I know the heat is coming, but since I live in South Louisiana, I'm kinda used to the heat and humidity!
The doggie ramp is something we've been looking at....DH doesn't want to spend $100...thinks he could make one....well, after 30 days of lifting her in and out...we may be visiting PETCO real soon!
I suggest you check out Dogramp.com. Our 10 yr old rottie loves hers. We just returned from Tampa area to Mich, all of us in a pickup truck w/ crew cab. She learned this new trick quite quickly, last year. Of course that invoved some chicken incentives. Great product and they are made in Oakland Park, FL. At home it is at the foot of our California King bed for her. Good luck and safe travels.

Tomorrow will be a week since we pulled out.....Florida has been awesome...the weather could not be better Our trip down was not without incident.....busted out the back window on a sharp u-turn (very expensive lesson.....DH knew better, but was trying to avoid a pot hole and forgot about the turn ratio). That put a damper on the end of the first day on the road. WE do have access to a vehicle (daugther and husband have two vehicles and we are parked next to their motorhome here in Davenport). We were able to put the truck into the shop (some damage occurred on the top over the window as well) should get it back next Tuesday.
We have been to Disney this week....and of course, Momma (me) has had to do some "home cooking" since daughter and her family have been gone from home almost two years on travel nursing assignments. The grandkids love having us next door and they are always over.
Our Coco has adjusted pretty well....she traveled very good...mostly sleeping the whole time. After arriving at our camp site, she has gotten into the routine of potty walks, and sitting outside all with the leash (she has never had to be leashed). Although we brought a kennel to keep her in inside the 5er when we are away.....she has proven not to need it since she sleeps whenever we are gone.
So, all in all, our trip has been great. It's spring break around here, so traffic has been hetic and Disney is very busy, but we are looking forward to a little less congestion starting next week. We also have a beach wedding to attend in Sarasota on the 26th....that should be fun!
Melanie it is good to see your post and your positive attitude. Things happen to everyone and it is how you handle it that makes all the difference in the world! Good luck and safe travels.
Glad to hear you are having a good trip Melanie. And don't worry... Stuff like that happens to all of us. After having our 5er for over 3 years and traveling many thousand miles, we dropped the trailer on the truck a few weeks ago. Big Opps! We'll need to get the truck bed rails fixed but thankfully that's all cosmetic damage. Only damage to the trailer was it bounced the bed off slide rails. Got that fixed.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and like Janni said... It's all in how you handle the bumps because they surely happen to all of us!

Glad to hear you're having a great time Melanie! You couldn't have picked a better time to be in Florida - we're having the best weather right now. I tell people that this weather is the reason to live here - then we have to suffer through the summer!
Glad to hear you've put the u-turn mishap behind you and in perspective. I'll bet every one of us has done something expensively stupid at one time or another. If I see you in person sometime I'll tell you how I just about ripped the entire front cap off the motorhome!

Glad to see your enjoying our wonderfull state. We to are geting ready to take an extended trip, our next step to see if we really are cut out to be full timers. Planing on heading out west in July or August for two months. My real concern is the ability to go back to work after getting a taste of 'The Lifestyle"
Melanie--hope you are having a great trip. We just returned from Florida yesterday, and averaged about 400 miles a day--not bad. We have done up to 800 but don't look to do that any more--have a great time and good luck.
