Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Not New but New to this forum

Hi,

The wife and I have been full time RV'rs for a bit over 6 years now and we love it still. Just wish we could spend more time traveling instead of spending so much time setting in one spot making a living. We both own businesses which takes our hands on to stay running. She is the 1/2 owner/office manager and whatnot for a hand blown glass salt and pepper shaker manufacturing company called Gazelle Art Glass. See website for more details www.gazelleglass.com. I own and operate a starter and alternator repair shop. I can repair just about any kind of starter or alternator from cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, lawn and garden equipment, or nealry anything that has an engine and needs to have a starter or alternator to run. I don't do any work on the car or whatever just on the part that is bad after it is removed and put on my bench. I am to old and fat to bend over a fender and any more and if I get down on the floor I start looking for other things to do while I am down there. Gravity has a firm hold on me it seems like.

We live and travel in a 2005 40 Winnebago Vectra with 400 HP Cummins power in a Custom Freightliner chassies. We tow a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. We have made several modifications to the house in the 6 years we have lived in it. We started by replacing the gas cooktop with a glass electric cooktop. We replaced the 4 door Norcold fridge with a 2 door residentual fridge from Sears after the Norcold failed twice in the same year. The Kenmore cost a bit over $1300 and the repair on the Norcold would have run well past $2000. We are seldom anywhere there is not shore power anyway and on any trip over an hour we just run the generator. We can run the generator all day on less than a quart of diesel. The other major change we did was removal of the couch and chair that came with the coach and replace them with a couple of nice Lazy boy chairs along with a nice oak filing cabinet. This summer we had new carpet laid in the living room and bedroom. Oh almost forgot we had a new dish installed as the original one had quit tracking like it was supposed to. We replaced it with a travler dish from Wingard. Now we can watch TV without loosing the signal in the middle of a program.

Took us a couple years to get all the little bugs worked out but finally think we have them all fixed now for a couple years. There was nothing we couldn't have lived with but they just needed fixing in our opinion. Besides it gave us soimething to do or work towards.

While we haven't put a lot of miles on we are firm belivers in the lifestyle. It frees you up to just pick up and go when you want. Boss piss you offon Friday, you can take a time out by just driving around the block if need be and go back to work on Monday with a new outlook on life. Being as your house is on wheels and ready to move nearly at a monemts notice maybe your boss will be just a little better about how he or she treets you as you could be gone in less time than it takes them to go home.

I am more than happy to advise on full time living or RV'ing in general. We are life members of Good Sam. Nearly a life member of the Experimental Aircraft Association as well as Life member in the Disabled Veterens Association. I am on Peritonial Dialysis nightly and can relate to traveling with dialysis and kidney disease. Also a Navy, Viet Nam veteran having served with fighter squadren VF-24 onboard the USS Han****, from 1971 - 1974.

Well, now.  I certainly can relate to the mechanic skill you described in your first paragraph.  However, in my case, if I get horizontal, I'm likely to go to sleep.

Anyway, welcome to the forums.  Since you've been doing some of this already, we look forward to your comments.  Plus, we will welcome any of your questions.

If you've been reading for very long, you will probably already know that the RV Dreams forums have a lot of knowledgeable folks ready to participate.

Enjoy the experience.

Terry
