Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I know I should of asked this weeks ago but life is keeping me pretty busy... I want to purchase one of those 5th wheel tailgates for my husand's truck... Any recommendations as to brands or what to look for... Thanks for any help trucks are not my thing.. It is a Ford 350 Duelly with an extended cab...I don't think that matters.. Thanks patti
Actually, it does matter what brand of truck it is. Call or go to a truck outfitter shop, you can tell it because all the trucks outside will have shiny wheels, chrome everything and lots of lights on top. Seriously, Camping World carries them, as well as a lot of other online places.
Patti, Why do you want a fifth wheel tailgate? Keeping the regular tailgate and getting a lockable bed cover gives you a lot of extra secure storage space. We keep 3 large storage containers in the truck bed for winter clothes, tools and miscellaneous stuff, along with bird feeders, jacks and anything we don't want to keep in the truck.
Just as a FYI, I considered one of those with the dip in the center. Then, when we got our Ford F450, the tailgate has one of those built in steps and a handle that lifts up to hold onto when getting in.
Now, considering that I am 64 years old (and last I heard still getting older) and about 50 pounds overweight, I think I'll forget about the dip center tailgate. I like that step and handle.

If I ever need a V-Notch tailgate it will be another Husky Aluminum. Very light and very sturdy. It will not rust and installs by one person in minutes. Its a very Professional touch. They are pricey but will out last the Truck. When I went to the Frieghtliner I didn't need the V-Notch and sold it. I had two other brands of Steel V-notches but hands down the Husky Aluminum was the best for my use.

I agree with Fred on this one, the extra security is well worth the few extra steps in hooking up the rig. Also my pig-tail outlet is on the inside of the bed of our truck, I have to lower my tailgate anyway to plug in. I also agree if your tailgate has the built in handle/step why would you give that up.

Thinking about buying one of those myself since as we were proudly unhitching our new 5th wheel, when we totally forgot to lower the tailgate, so can you say a little bent. Still closes but may get one just to stay safe for future "Oops". Live and learn
I'm kinda leaning toward what Fred said. I currently have one of those 5th wheel tailgates with the dip in the center. The handle broke off so I have to pull the cords to drop the gate.
I'm thinking when we take off, I'm going to put my Ford tailgate back on and get a lockable cover. Good idea.
