Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Howard has asked me to start a new thread regarding the new Weight Watchers Plan. I was wondering how everyone was doing with the new point values. I'm finding it a bit confusing especially since I've been doing the other plan with minor variations for about 10 years. It's going to be really interesting to see how it all plays out - our WW leader said that they put lots of scientific study into the new plan . . . so I'm hoping it will work as well as the old one!
Yes, I see what you mean Linda - re your comment on the other WW topic about not using all your points! I didn't use near all mine yesterday either! I'm anxious to go to my next WW meeting and see how everyone is getting along with this program.
I'm trying to have confidence that it will work, since I'm sure that they wouldn't have introduced it if there were any doubts. I ended up buying a new Complete Food Companion book also, so that I can refer to it until I get used to the new point values. As I mentioned before, I also bought the new PointsPlus Calculater - I never go to the grocery store without my points calculator!
I attended WW meetings most of this year....bought all the books, and the calculators...now they are obsolete? I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theraist...but, makes you wonder if they needed a jolt in sales? I'll be interested to see if this new plan works better. Sorry if I seem negative...
WW usually tweaks their program every year, but you are right - I haven't seen such a change for as long as I can remember. It is upsetting that all that we have bought in the past is now obsolete!
I, however, am excited about the change - maybe, because I have been going so long that this will hopefully be a little jolt that will keep me interested and challenged again. Once the "honeymoon"period is over, it's hard to keep on maintenance - it's just not as exciting as seeing all that weight dropping off!
I don't blame you tho, Melstar, it is a pain to have to purchase new things now. I especially don't like the fact that there are no more paper sliders to figure points. Our WW leader said that they tried to figure out a way to do one, but there are too many variables now!
I just joined yesterday. I did WW several years ago and did very well. In the last year I have put alot of the weight back on. I think I will need to buy the calculator to figure out the points. I have decided to do it on line this time. I will let you know how I like the new plan.
I am anxious to see how my weigh-in goes on Sunday. I feel like I'm eating way more food now than before. If I lose then I will be happy with the new plan.
Mel, I don't blame you for being upset. I would feel the same way. I am doing the online program and they provide an online points calculator but that doesn't help when you are at the grocery. I always used to carry my slide with me wherever I went. I am planning to go to a meeting somewhere to buy a calculator.
Thanks so much for that article! I guess that we're not the only ones reeling from the BIG WW change! I sent the article to my daughters and sister - we are all on the plan! It's sure a pain trying to figure out all the new point values!
Never used WW's but have been involved in the health and fitness industry forever. Reading the article, it looks like WW has it right or at least better than their previous philosophy. Not all calories are the same and it makes perfect sense where an orange is negligible but a glass of OJ is 3 points, due to its sugar content which inhibits fat burn or loss. Whether you are on WW, count calories, or what have you, if you keep sugar (and all its deriviatives like high fructose corn syrup, etc) to an absolute minimum, increase your fiber intake and watch your fat calories, it is extremely hard to over eat. And yes you can do it with very tasty meals too! Weighing 180 pounds at about 10% bodyfat, I try to consume 2400-2700 calories a day based on my training activity. Eating six 'clean' meals a day, it is very very difficult for me to reach my caloric intake target every day and on most days I miss it. The point being is that you don't need to starve yourself to diet. Calorie breakdown for me as an example is 35-45% from protein, 35-45 from carbs (yes the right carbs are not bad for you) and 10-20% from fat calories. I actually increase my fat intake when I am going to miss my target by alot. Obviously someone that is less active would target a lower calorie intake but it would still be very hard to get those calories in when you eat clean. Be aware of sneaky advertisement by food manufacturers. For example, 1% milk actually has 17% fat, 2% milk has about 37% fat and whole milk is about 50% fat. In addition, milk is super high in sugar. The same is true for soy milk as well. Its good for kids growing up but no good for adults. I take a calcium supplement in its place. I am NOT happy that you gained 1/2 lb.!!!!! That is scaring me! I have a WW meeting on Tuesday; I'll see how things are going for everyone at our meeting.
I'm hoping it's just your body adjusting to the new plan!!!
I am getting back on the plan. I lost 10 lbs this summer and then when my pants fit better. I lost some motivaton and stopped tracking and did not lose any more. Catherine has stuck with it and lost 15.
We are also trying to figure out the new plan. It is kind of a pain because we had the other one all figured out.
I will say I know lots of people who say they "did weight watchers" but never actually joined because you can get the information all over the place. My guess is that part of the change is incorporating "new research" and also keeping the revenue stream going. I am in publishing so I know that a lot of people will not buy what they can find for free.
Hmmm.... I just put my Bud Select 55 beer in the new calculator. 2grams carbs, 0 fat,0 protein, 0 fiber = 0 pts.
I am liking this plan better already :) although I am a little concerned about the possible results.

Just joined WW Online Thurs 12/2. Looking forward to seeing how it works for me. Had first physical in a couple years last week. Weight is up, cholesterol is up. Gotta take control.
One Question: To calculate the points for a dish (like Linda's Baked Spaghetti Casserole) do you simply sum the components for each ingredient? Then enter total carbs, total fat, total proteins and total fiber into the calculator?
To find out how many points a recipe has, you use the Recipe Builder. You enter the ingredients and their points on that page and at the end you enter the number of servings. The Recipe Builder will then calculate the points per serving for you.
It is really a nice feature. You can swap out ingredients to use less fat, etc.
I would bet that my baked spaghetti is very high in points. Let me know!
I don't have the WW scale, but I do have an electronic scale that I sometimes use for weighing my portions. My scale is a mail scale that weighs in grams and ounces.
We attended a WW meeting this past week and the leader was telling everyone about the WW scale and how much she loved it.
Thanks Linda. I went to a WW meeting. The meeting was over but it was open for several hours to buy products and for weigh-ins. They were out of the scales. I guess I will have to go back. I did get the calculator. She said the scale has been very popular. The few people that came in to be weighed seemed to like the new plan as well.
As your weight drops your points will drop also. You were probably just on the border line of 32 & 31 points per day. I should think it won't change for awhile now.
Hi All, I joined mid-november and have now been on the plan for 1 month. I have lost 12 pounds, 5 of which I lost this week on the new program. I am loving the new program, learning to eat the fruit because they have figured 5 fruits into your daily pointsplus allowance.
Sanddreamer, your pointsplus allowance will go down as your weight goes down. When it reaches 29 it will stay there .... it has been scientifically designed to work this way apparently.
I calculated the points for Spaghetti Amore (Linda's recipe). I used very lean ground beef and low fat cheese. It totalled 116 points for the dish. If it was 12 servings the points would be almost 10 per serving. I guess that isn't too bad for a dinner.
For those who are using the new WW plan, I'm wondering if you think it is any better than the old plan? I'm a former WW member & I have all my old info that I recently pulled out & started following again. Just wondering if there would be any benefit to purchasing/following the new plan instead?
Cindy, I prefer the new plan. I had also done the old plan twice before. I know a serial dieter!!! The new plan has all fruit free and most veggies free except for corn, peas, sweet potatoes and potatoes. The points are higher now but so is your allowance. Veg like onion and mushrooms had a point value on the old system, not on this one. So now, if you're looking for a snack you can eat a banana plus any other fruit!!! But because of the scientific computation they say you are in grave danger if you try to combine the two systems, you won't lose weight that way. Give it a try - I am sure you'll like it.
I'm waiting to see if people report continued weight loss on the new plan. Then maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks for posting your thoughts about Weight Watchers.

Just wanted to give you an update - I have been on the new pointsplus program for 7 weeks now and have lost 15.6 pounds. I love the new changes to the program!!
I agree with you. I've been on it for 5 weeks and have lost 7lbs. Considering that was through Christmas, New Years, and 2 birthdays in the faimly I am very satisified.
Good Job you guys! I will be so happy when I can get past this plateau. I weigh in tomorrow and I don't think that I have lost any this week. I am in slow motion losing this weight!!!! Ugh!
While I'm not doing weight watchers, Johnny and I are trying to do a better job of watching what we eat. A few days ago Laurie, another fulltime rver mentioned a recipe and website in their blog, Semi-True Tales of Our Life on the Road. The website is skinnytaste.com.
I've tried a couple of recipes from the site and so far we're batting 50% -- one winner and one not so much. Yesterday we had Chicken and Mushrooms in Garlic White Wine Sauce. Very good. Tonight we tried the CrockPot Sante Fe Chicken. We're thinking it would be better with taco seasoning in place of the suggested seasonings. Normally I like from scratch seasonings, but in this case I think we'll try it with the taco seasoning and see if we like it better.
I thought I'd mention the website here because it has WW Points and Points+ for each recipe.

This is really interesting. How are yall doing on this and are you still liking it? I was checking out the WW boards and I saw a lot of complaining from people who felt they were eating too much, were having a hard time eating all their points and etc.
I know this is a old post but I love this sight, just started looking around few weeks ago, and love that there is a post about WW here! I've been a WW for 12 years and lost 95 in 2001 and now work for WW part time.(one of the things that's going to be hard to give up when we go full time). Any way, took me while to get used to the new program still not sure I like it as much as the one before where I lost all my weight, but it does work!
Glad to know their are other Fill times doing WW it's a life style I MUST keep up never what to go back again. I feel with the added exercise we plan on getting that will help. Now all I have to do is get the idea out of my head that were "camping" and I can have a treat because of that☺
