Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Camp Site Size

I have a question for those of you that have been fulltiming for awhile. When selecting a camp site do you have a minimum width that you'll accept for your rig? In other words are there campsites out there that won't work for say a 5er with 4 or 5 slides?

In reading several other forums I've noticed many of you will call ahead and ask for the size of sites. Have you ever passed on a site because of the size?

For us it depends on how long we are going to be there. If it is just overnight or a couple days our only concern is length. We have not yet found a park we couldn't put all 3 slides out.We have been able to shake hands with our neighbor out of the window a couple timeshmm. That being said we have at times traveled a little further in a day to get a bigger site.

We've been in over 300 campgrounds and have never had a site that was too narrow for us to put out our slides, however some have been too close to our neighbors for real comfort. We generally are more concerned with length, which dictates how we have to park the truck.

A lot depends on how you live. If you are a "camper" and like to sit outside a lot, then space and shrubbery surrounding you are more important. If however, you are inside folks that end to be online or watching TV most of the time, then the outside ambiance is not as important.

We are inside people, and generally only leave the rig to get in the truck to go somewhere. Different strokes, for different folks!

Fred made a good point I forgot about as we too are "inside " people.

Like Fred, we haven't had a site yet that wouldn't allow the slides to open. However, we have been in sites where in order to get enough room for the slides, an obstacle like a tree, building, rocks or a fence wouldn't allow us to extend our patio awning all the way.

Usually we look for sites that are away from neighbors, shaded, concrete or asphalt pad and have some sort of view. We stay away from RV parks with closely spaced sites unless there's a fence or hedge to block views of the next door neighbors RV.

The site in my profile photo is one of our favorites.  It parallels a fast flowing stream, and the nearest neighbor is at least 10 feet behind our RV, with no one in front for 30 feet.  There is a large old tree that shades the site but is tall enough for our RV to fit under.  A long grass covered 30 foot area leads down to the stream.
