Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

WI-FI Hotspot

I was in a Home Depot the other day and notice that my 3G fone was picking up wi-fi hotspots thru out.  I suspect they are for contractors to connect with customers or their company, but the hotspots were unsecure.

Wonder if HD realizes that they might be creating a future boondock site for RVs?

It's fun to cruise through a big shopping center and watch all the free WiFi spots pop up.

Unfortunately, many cities have instituted restrictions on overnight parking in parking lots.

Some cities also have strict loitering laws aimed at home center type stores due to the complaints regarding day laborers hanging around in large numbers.

The world is becoming more and more restricted due to the few that ruin it for the masses.

The unsecure hotspots is part of the reason I really like the Verizon MiFi that we got.  It can be secured and we can carry it around with us when traveling.  However, having said that, we have yet to do so, and I may be surprised with its capabilities, or its limitations.

One more bridge to cross.

Terry: Definitely secure your MiFi or someone will use your service and blow out your 5GB per month. You even have to worry about others using it that you give the key. A friend gave his neighbor the key and a week later there was a big spike in usage so he turned the wifi off. The neighbor came and asked what was wrong since the neighbor's grandson was visiting and complained when his online game stopped working.

On using random wifi hotspots you better have your virus and firewall very up to date since who knows how well maintained the systems are you are connecting to. I would not do anything important while hooked up to a wifi hotspot I know nothing about.

I'm not too worried about the security issue because Jo is the Information Technology professional.  We both work for an Oklahoma law enforcement agency and she is the department manager for the hardware and software support.

As for the "key", that has only gone to one of our sons.  He lives about 20 miles from us and only has the use of our MiFi when we take an extended trip and he stays out here to take care of our two MinPins.

But, yours is still dang good advice.  Nothing like a kid with an online game to exceed expectations.

Thanks.

Terry
