Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

contemplating the idea of FT in the future

ok, Ive been thinking for days just what do I say about myself to introduce myself.
In a nut shell, Im a single mom of 14yr old. I came across this RV forum a couple days ago and have spent hours reading. Ive never done any forums on anything before and have really enjoyed all the information and friendly people here. I feel as I already "know" some of you.
In 5 yrs when my daughter gruaduates I can retire and travel on the road. I hope to get a little money from the sale of my house at that time and buy a 5er and truck to pull it. Right now just collecting information and paying off debt.
I have a 5 yr plan. Ill be 62 yrs young then and ready.

Welcome to the forum. We are also Texans from the DFW area (Rockwall).

We will be fulltimers in the summer of 2011. The people at this forum are freindly and helpful. You can always count on getting real honest advice here.

There is also an RV club (RVing Woman) that have a lot of solo RV travelers. That might also interest you.

THX. Ill check out RV woman. Im a little scared of how will I pull TT/5er and mostly Back it up into a spot. If only All could be drive throughs
I did drive a U-haul by myself and pulled my car on a trailer behind it when I moved to Colorado , but that was 16 yrs ago..(and I never had to back it up)

THX, I didnt even know there were driving schools for RV's. Ill check into them when closer to time.
My sister has truck and pulls her horse trailer. Thought she could give me pointers too. Or I could get her to haul me to places then fly her home, Just kidding here...

Backing an RV just takes a little practice. I was nervous too. Now I have no problem backing in the fifth wheel.

OK.  We're getting too many Texans around here.  And most on this thread are also women.

Now, I REALLY feel outnumbered.  We Okies, what few are on the forums, are feeling threatened

(Just kidding, All.)

Jean,

Welcome to the forums at RV Dreams.  I am sure that you will soon be comfortable with asking questions and making comments of your own.  So, feel free to jump in and get your feet wet.

Regarding your sister with a pickup and horse trailer, is it a gooseneck type hook-up or is it bumper pull?  With either, you can get some experience if she will let you.  Just keep in mind that it is somewhat easier with a gooseneck, thus making a fifth wheel type camper fairly easy to handle.  The main thing is to just jump in and start getting practice.  Open fields or large, empty parking lots are pretty good places for practice with backing.

I quess when the time comes to buy TT/5er I'll do what I did about 30 yrs ago when I bought my VW . I didnt know how to drive a stick shift so had mom drop me and friend off at dealer. She drove it home for me and then I had to learn how to drive it because I just bought it.

Now just a dadburn minute there Okie.  You call me a woman just one more time and I'm gonna come to OK and smack you around. 

I was in Duncan week before last, and considered looking you up, but I just ran out of time visiting with Grandson and his fiance and her family. 

A lot of members here are transplants anyway, since they are Escapees from Livingston.  They weren't lucky like me and you and were born here.  (See, I remember you were born in Amarillo, and I ain't about to let you forget)

The best thing about this forum is you don't get flamed for an honest opinion, most of the time.
