Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Sunday we were on I 64 in Indiana. Pulled into the Flying J. Diesel was advertised at 2.86 a gal but after we pulled in a sign on the rv and car pumps said car diesel was 3.09. Is this a common practice now?
You must have stopped at the same one we stopped at in Indiana. The lady inside said the big sign was for truckers who pay their fuel taxes seperatly than the normal public. So the difference was fuel taxes.Told her I thought it was very a deceptive advertising ploy.In her defense she just works there and has to follow Corporate rules.I am thinking of lodging a complaint although with the Flying J/Pilot merger after bankruptsy I may not hear anything. That is NOT a standard practice with them as all other Flying J/ Pilot stores have honored my Frequent Filler card and sold me Diesel at the cash price.

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
Both Indiana and Oregon have this situation where they often advertise the truck driver diesel price when everyone else pays more. In Arizona they advertise the car price since vehicles over 26,000 lbs pay 8 cents more per gallon. (Yes, many RVs that are over 26,000 lbs don't fess up and pay the 8 cents in Arizona.)

This is not just a Flying J thing. Most stations in Indiana do it. I never buy fuel in Indiana because I also think it's deception.
I've got a large enough tank and with just a little planning I can buy fuel in a neighboring state where you get it for the advertised price.

Yes, the truckers pay different taxes in Indiana and Oregon so they get a break for fuel prices since they already paid. The difference is sales tax in Indiana (6 to 7% I think) and 24 cents in Oregon. Plus at Flying J's (and some Pilots) right now you have to fuel at the car and RV islands to get the cash price with card. There is no discount for using the truck islands.
