Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Truck Boxes and Tonneaus

Trying to get an answer here all in one place ... :)

Yes, I have a 2010 Ford F-350 Super Duty SWD short-bed.
Yes, I have a Reese 16K manual slider hitch installed.
Yes, I want to maximize the use and utility of the available space in the bed.

So, I'm thinking about a truck box, or a tonneau, or a combination of both. However, I'm just not sure if a tonneau would go over the hitch. In eyeballing it, it should. The next question would be a solid one or a rollup.

I'm also looking at security, hence my investigations into a lockable truck box.

Any insight, experience, recommendations gratefully received!

Paul

Hi Paul,

Every hitch I've seen is below the height of the truck rails and a cover goes over easily.

Hey Paul,

I'm looking at the Fold-a-Cover brand. I want the full bed use, and a rollup cover will intrude into the front of the bed and not provide full use of space.

Regards, Howard

Howard and Linda had a tonneau made with a flap that closes over the 5er hitch when not hooked up. Ask him, maybe he has pics handy.

OK ... checked into this and it looks really good! A little pricey but, you get a full, rigid metal foldaway that is lockable. I like that!

Would love to hear from anyone who actually has this item on their truck.

With the lockable tonneau, I really see no need for "Personal Caddy" that is an option to go with it because anything you want can be securely stored underneath the cover in plastic totes. If it's something really important or expensive, it can go in the RV, truck crewcab, or just be secured with cable locks in the truck bed.
