Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I sometimes "drop in" on other RV related forums. It does not take long to come across a thread to find someone who is nasty or is flaming another poster. Most times for no apparent reason except they might disagree with them.
Once I posted my reasons for changing domicile from TX to SD and was verbally assualted by several people. (lesson learned - NEVER, EVER say anything the least bit negative about TX, those are fighting words. LOL).
I am so proud of RV-Dreams. I can't recall anyone ever getting nasty or insulting here. No one is ever talked to in a condescending manner.
So to everyone who posts on this forum, I say thank you for your impeccable manners and consideration of each other. Good job!
I agree with you Phyllis.Recently there was a discussion here and on another forum about removing shoes inside, going on at the same time.I could not believe how nasty something that simple got over there versus how it was disscussed here.

I couldn't agree more. I have never understood why people on some forums are so filled with anger that they have to try to rip other people apart for asking an innocent question.
Aside from the fact that it isn't going to change anything, other than to diminish the opinion of the 'ripper' in the eyes of others, it accomplishes nothing... I don't know where such anger comes from, but it's kind of frightening that there are so many people out there who feel they have to lash out in this way.
I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that if it was face-to-face they would never voice such sentiments in the way they do online.

I remember the thread in question I thought at the time you were being treated in a very shabby fashion. I can be confrontational in my style and on "the Other forum" I am more so then here. But a lot of that is the way the forums are moderated. Howard and Linda don't tolarate a lot of the things the mods on T.O.F. do. Like in everything a tone is set and a culture established.
Here the cutlture is one of polite conversation. On T.O.F. there is a bit of a chip on some people shoulders you find it in almost every forum there. The Brideandjoy claims the issue is one of hobby horses too many people there have their pet subjects (or hobby horse) and whenever those subjects come up they ride that hobby horse for all it's worth breaking out the whips and beating it senseless.
Here though things tend to be more on the lines of "How do you do X?" and everyone expresses an opinion if they have one. It's an interesting contrast.
I agree, though I have not been on any other RV sites. I have been on many other sites from ATV's to guns to etc and there seem to always be several that are so condesending when you ask a question. I have asked a few so far and have had quick, courteous, and helpful replies. I don't know why people don't understand if I knew the answer I wouldn't ask the question and they probably didn't always know the answer either. This is a great site.
Well, before we all get all "giddy" about this forum, I do need to point out that someone ran off a 23 year old looking for new friends. Since Dan said he got 6 messages from her, she must have really liked him. So, since I doubt Dan did it, someone blabbed to Howard and Linda. (And yes, Dan, I'm jealous because I only got 4 messages from "Blessing".)
OK. Just kidding.
Like 4wheel1, I have spent a fair bit of time on different forums. There is a Ford diesel forum that I read, but haven't posted to yet, there is forum with Oklahoma Shooter's Association (guns, not pool), and four or more RV forums that I frequent.
BY FAR, Howard and Linda's is the nicest and thus, the most active. In fact, one needs to check into these forums at least once a day or you won't see all the "Recent Posts" that show up in the first view of the forums.
I spend a lot of time on two of those RV forums that are more related to the DRV Suites fifth wheels, since that is what we now have. That way, I get the opportunity to hear questions, comments, and "fixes" for the DRV units. While those forums are also very good, having helpful people, one does run across the occasional "stinker."
When I found Howard's website and forum in 2008, I knew absolutely NOTHING about living full time in an RV. While there is STILL a lot that I don't know, I do know where to look for answers. Thanks loads to all of you out there that are so willing to help.

I was on one of the "other forums" last night for a spell. I chose to read an off (RV) topic thread, as it was 6 pages long and my curiosity got the best of me (why so many posts?). I was shocked at some of the responses, as they not only verbally attacked one another, but one person went on to wish for things such as an early demise of another! I can't begin to describe how upsetting it was for me to realize that people can get this way just because they disagree on a topic. I'm pretty much a pacifist and try to treat everyone with which I come in contact, as I would like to be treated. I understand that people are different and therefore will have different perspectives and opinions. However, as the "new kid on the block", that display left me with negative feelings about that community in general. I will be far more inclined to post future questions here, with less concern for being verbally attacked if I inadvertantly step on someones toes, or post an opinion that may be in opposition to one they hold.
When I first began my research on the FTing lifestyle, I joined several different forums, including this one. I promptly "un-joined" many of them, after seeing how the members were allowed to treat each other. Just because we have the relative anonymity of the Internet doesn't give anyone the right to behave so monstrously, and I agree with Tim that most of them wouldn't be so "forthright" if they were face-to-face!
Great thread, Phyllis!

Terry, now i feel slighted. Only recieved one message from Blessed. A couple years ago I signed into five RV forums and two Yahoo groups. Have since unsubscribed down to two. Way too many egos on those other groups. Howard and Linda run a tight ship here.
I'd like to also brag on this forum....I'm a wannabe and I've asked alot of questions...some probably "dumb" ones.....and no one here makes me feel less than important! I received great and helpful responses.....and even attachments for me to use...(thank you Terry & Jo)!!
I agree totally. As far as the rv lifestyle there is no better forum. People here genuinely want to help each other and share a passion for this life choice. I do participate in the owners forum for our 5th wheel and it has provided us with valuable info specific to our needs. We have met some great people there but can get a little crazy at times. They have an off topic thread for some of the member who like to tease one another. It keeps it off the other threads. This forum however has the best overall knowlege base with great , kind and polite people who demonstrate that civility is alive on the web.

I think that this has become known as the friendliest RV forum on the Internet because Howard and Linda are super nice people and will not allow post of an unkind nature. There have been a few times, that I know of, that Howard has removed a comment or thread from this site.
Also, this forum has attracted a very helpful bunch of folks that realize that everyone has questions, and yes, fears, about the lifestyle, and are willing to help in any way they can.
I too. am very proud to be a part of this forum and be part of the RV-Dreams family.
I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has posted questions, answers or comments on this forum. You have made this forum what it is today.
Let's keep it this way.

Well, I must say that I am also extremely proud of this Forum and its members.
It is extremely difficult in an open forum to maintain civility, and I have been pleasantly surprised at how few "incidents" we've had here and how few times I've had to intervene. All the members here deserve a great deal of credit for that.
Thank you all so much for your respectful participation in the RV-Dreams Forum and for recognizing that we are a bit "different".
You expressed how I feel about this bunch of folks. Although we belong to the usual full-timing groups/organizations and I check out the boards, I rarely post there.
This is home. This is our extended RV family. Right here.
Our RV-Dreams family is welcome in our rig for a visit anytime, anywhere...as long as you don't say anything bad about Texas and take off your shoes before coming in!!
Cheers, Betty

So, Betty, this offer is great. But, do you know that you must ALWAYS keep donuts available?
Also,, I am on Okie and us Okies ALWAYS have the right to criticize Texas. (I think it's in the constitution somewhere.)

Hey! Do you know how to find Texas????
I know how to find Texas, but I ain't gonna let the cat out of the bag. But, if I tell how to find it, everybody would come down here. We have friends that live near Hooker that say when you get far enough south to lose the hog pen and lagoon smell, you must be in Texas.
Like you, I'm gonna be nice.
Terry, when are you gonna start using tha MS to it's best use? You are aware that an RV, when not used, begins to mold?

Good Grief!! Are you psychic? How did you know of our problems?
We picked up our Mobile Suites on May 7. Checked things out and turned it back into the dealership on June 7 to address the issues that we found needed to be corrected, one of which was a non-functioning GE Advantium convection/microwave oven.
Last word I got was from yesterday that our new GE Advantium should arrive by August 4. Seems there was a mis-communication between DRV and the dealership. They told the dealer to deal directly with GE. GE wanted them to open up the old one, cut out an electrical cord and remove a tag or sticker and send those to GE before they could get a replacement.
A follow-up call to GE got a recorded message and the dealership left a message with their phone number. No call back. After some time, I contacted the DRV representative out of Texas and she followed up with DRV's warranty department.
That apparently got things rolling. The service manage at the dealership really doesn't think it will take until August 4, but I'm not getting optimistic this time.
However, while we haven't gone anywhere with the Mobile Suites, there is a "remote" possibility for the last of August to spend a week in Colorado. My fingers are crossed. Money is the issue.
Oh, one other thing. We know Hooker, OK well. We are originally from the Panhandle of Oklahoma. That is how we know how to find Texas. It has something to do with stepping in something.
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I really like the fact that there is no bashing of each other on this forum, also. RV-Dreams forum is by far the best RV forum out there. I am really starting to feel like everybody here is kinda like extended family. Keep up the great work Howard and Lind, and all the members.
As for Texas, I am naturally a Yankee, but would rather be in Texas (actually planning to domicile there eventually).

SSSSSSHHHHH. Don't tell anybody where you are going. They might hear and come too. Like a friend told me once, you were lucky to be born in Texas, but he got here as soon as he could. Don't tell Terry, but most of us have a shovel and keep the ground pretty clean. We just let 'em think they might get something on their drugstore cowboy boots. We wear boots cause that's what a man wears. Come on down, some people take longer than others. Good things come to he who waits.
I agree this is a excellent forum, Howard and Linda run a good ship. Very professional, and great information and comments from the members. Howeve we are on several different and have been flamed many times. But here is the answer, truth and fact destroy the flamers. There are many who are Cowboy Keyboard flamers, that only means they wouldn't do or say the samething in person. And it don't take long before you know them. I also will send a PM to those and let them know my feelings. In most cases thats the end of the Flames. Thats why I try to never bash another Manufactor, and most of my answers are from hands on experience and or trail and error which means ton of money in many cases. GBY...

We can't express in words how much we appreciate Howard and Linda for creating this web site and forum----and how much we appreciate all of you. Don't know how I came across it, but it's the only one we have joined or really look at. It is the only net forum that we have ever been a part of. Didn't know a toad from a tow. (ohhhhhhh) By sharing your experiences, tips, products, etc. you all have made it a lot easier for us to get through the process of becoming FT. My overall impression, being new here, is that everyone here is genuinely trying to help each other. Each has their own personality and style. It is clear that there are some in-depth friendships here that kid or openly disagree with each other. As in any group there are those who completely believe in what they have to say. All in all I have seen everyone be very civil to each other. If the general tone of the posts were different, we would not feel save enough to post this today or in the future when we can share with others. In the past, Georgia and I have been personally exposed to the general media and other forums where it amazed me how brutal people can be. This group and those to come are "like totallllllly amazing" and we value being accepted into the RV-Dreams community. Again, thank you Howard and Linda for this site. Thanks again to all of you that take your time share your knowledge and experience. Rod and Georgia RV2B 1986 Taurus
Yes, thank you for this forum. I am french speaking from Quebec and this is the best place to get information. We have a forum in Quebec, but people are not very nice...so I come here to read. After 18 months of searching this is where I got all my info and I am very satisfied. I try to write the best way I can, but it is not easy for me. But I did want to thank you all as well as Howard and Linda for your help. Keep it up!

Ah, if only Ken knew. Jo and I are originally from the end of the Oklahoma Panhandle. I guarantee you that Cimarron County is mostly agricultural, thus the full understanding of boots and hats and saddles. (Almost cowboy to the core. Almost.... because while the cowboy attitude still prevails, urban life now and a skin condition precludes the correct cowboy attire.)

You are right in that this is a very valuable forum as well as friendly. I encourage you to comment more and ask more questions. Not only does it aid the learning process about RV's, but it also aids the learning process of mastering a new language. Welcome to the forums.
So, from 53Merc in Texas to picolina (Andree) in Canada, it shows that the RV Dreams family is quite diverse in location as well as lifestyles, habits, likes and dislikes, as well as many other traits. But one thing seems constant. The willingness to help and encourage others and the overall friendliness.
Keep in mind, we are judged by the company we keep, and I think we keep pretty good company around here.

I am actually quite surprised to hear that English is not your first language. Your use of English writing here is just as good, if not better, than many people born and raised in the U.S. I would have never guessed. It has been so long since I was in school, that I imagine you do better than me.
Anyway, this is definitely a great place to get information about RVing, and I haven't seen any bashing or belittling of others going on.
Time to admit that this is such a great forum that it really is the only one I read. There is such a wealth of knowledge and variety of opinions that I haven't found the need to go anywhere else.
Guess I'm glad that I thought all forums were as polite, nice and funny as this one.
