Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

I am waiting for my TPMS to arrive via UPS and I was wondering about the high pressure and high tempature alarm settings.
I have a TPMS for my motorcycle and I can set an upper limit for both pressure and temp. The manual does not give any advice for figuring how much above ambient temp or cold tire pressure to set for the upper limits.

So how do you figure where to set your upper and even lower limits?

I regularly check my tire temps with an infrared thermometer when we are traveling and they are never over 110, even on the hottest days. So 120 or 130 should be good.

Fred, What is your cold tire pressure. On my Mobile Suites it is 125 psi. What is the rule of thumb to set the upper limit above cold pressure?

bzffr8.....Fred is talking TEMP not Presure. I run 125PSI as well but consistantly have tire temps above 120F going 60mph. Mine range from 120-150F. The temps vary widely depending on sun light.

Maybe I am jumping the gun a little. my motorcycle pressure system has 3 different alarms that I can set. Low and High pressure and high temp. Pressure will increase with the tempature. I set my high pressure alarm at 10 psi above the cold tire pressue and my temp alarm at 110 degrees. This again is for my motorcycle TPM. I then went for a long ride and my tire pressure increasd and my high pressure alarm went off. I ordered a Hawks Head system for the RV and I am assuming that I will be able to set low pressure alarms and High pressure alarm as well as a high temp alarm. If I set my tires at 125 psi (cold) and my low pressure alarm at 118 psi what would I want to set my High pressure alarm at? 130..135?? The pressure is going to increase as the tires heat up. Is there a reference for how much the PSI will increase for higher temps that would let me set the high pressure alarm? Maybe I should wait to see if it has the same capability as my motorcycles. Just curious how other people set up the systems.

I have G rated tires and they are set at 110PSI cold.

I would think that the manufacturer of the TPMS could provide some guidance on this as well.

My TPMS is a TST 507 flow thru system.  It came pre set at 158 F for the temp alarm (this is adjustable, but they recommend you use that setting) and they recommend setting pressures at 10 psi below the cold tire pressure for the low alarm and 20 psi above the cold TP for the high alarm.
