Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Howdy Everyone! Sorry it has been awhile since my last post, but things have been very busy the past few weeks as we prepare to head for Texas from Washington. So here is a good one... Before we take the RV away from Washington and on to Texas we took the coach back to the dealer for a few tune up items. One of the problems was with the Stereo system which is awesome when it is working. Things just were not right with the amp and sub-woofer. We get the coach back with the promise everything is working great...not so great, the stereo is worse than before and now when it is turned on it sounds like the engine of the coach is running through the speakers. It is so annoying!! Music and good clear music is essential for my wellbeing. I don't have time to take it back to the dealer as we leave Friday. is there anyone out there that is an expert at stereo systems? I am good, but no very little about RV systems. Thanks guys!! I'm not an expert so take this for what it's worth...
I have to assume this engine noise only occurs when the engine is running. Can you hear the engine noise rev up when you step on the gas pedal...or is the noise constant, no change in pitch or sound when you rev up the engine. If the sound doesn't change and occurs when the engine is off then that rules out the engine.
Since the dealer worked on the stereo my guess would be they didn't connect it back up properly.
In my experience engine noise in a stereo is the result of a poor ground, bad wiring connection, or engine problem like a bad spark plug wire.
Since you don't have time to go back to the dealer, check each connection that you can get to and make sure it is tight. If possible make sure the speaker wires are positive to positive and negative to negative.
Try to find the ground for the stereo (if it has a separate ground) and make sure it is tight and hooked to a good ground. If you see a connection for a ground on the back of the stereo and no ground wire is connected, try connecting a ground wire to see if that eliminates the noise.
If all of the stereo and speaker connections check out, then check your spark plug wires for bad spots. This usually works better in the dark so you can see if the wires arc against the engine or frame. If you find a bad wire replace it and see if the noise goes away.
Last resort would be to get a filter from an electronics or stereo store.
Again, not an expert just sharing my past experiences with stereos.
