Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Just found this site and have been on it all weekend. My wife and I will be retiring next year and hitting the road.

Maybe some of you out there can help us make a decision. We have been RVing for close to 30 years, weekends and vacations. We are currently without an rv, but getting ready to buy once again. BIG question do we go with a diesel pusher or 5th wheel?

Our previous rv's have always been travel trailers and we're looking to move up.

One issue that presents a problem is a full dress motorcycle. My understanding is that a heavy bike cannot be mounted to the back of a 5th wheeel. Does anyone know different?

Welcome.  Depending on the weight of the bike, look at swivel wheel trailers.  These are considered and extension and not double towing.  You can back up with these attached.  We are looking at a product called Idaho Tote.  We have 2 bikes to haul and the swivel wheel will not hold the weight.  Good Luck.

Another option you might consider is a toy-hauler type 5th wheel. Many folks with big bikes use these.

I'm sure some of the friendly folks here on the forum will have some suggestions for you.

Just wanted to welcome you to the RV Dreams forum and wish you the best in your pursuit of the full-time lifestyle.
Don't know much about fifth wheels...we own a DP (Dutch Star). I do know that we have seen many toy haulers in the campgrounds and most are hauling bikes. Look into these.

Another option for 5th Wheel Toy Haulers is Heartland.  They make a Road Warrior and Cyclone and at least one of those models have a 14 foot deep garage capable of holding 2500lbs. 

However, if you get their largest model, you're gonna need a BIG truck to pull it!

F-350/Ram 3500 type truck, possibly an Airstream or a smaller 5th Wheel.

However, there is still time to change the configuration, just a plan.

Welcome Trabuco! Sounds like you've already gotten some good suggestions here about hauling your bike. I have no experience in that department, but obviously folks here do. As with everything RV related, somebody here will have an answer or know where to find one.

Welcome to the RV Dreams family and to your "soon to be" wonderful new lifestyle.  We have been fulltiming for over 15 years and have loved every minute of it.  We started out with a 32' Airstream pulled by a 3/4 ton P/U, then moved up to a 37' Teton 5th wheel pulled by a Dodge Dually P/U,  then a 39' Teton pulled by a GMC Topkick MDT.   We now have the ultimate fulltiming rig...a 45' Teton Reliance 5th Wheel pulled by a Volvo 770 HDT.  We wish we had started out 15 years ago in the big rig instead of "moving up" gradually but they didn't even make anything that big when we started.smile.gif

We haul our motorcycle on a Rampage loader on the back of our Volvo 770 tow vehicle.  Here is a link to our Web Albums showing how it works:  Rampage   These pictures were taken when we had another motorcycle but we now travel with a 2007 Harley Heritage Softail on the Rampage.
