Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I've spent most of today checking values of the 5 or 6 motorhomes we're looking at. In the possible equipment list on several garbage disposals are listed. Is it feasible to install one in a motorhome???
I can understand not wanting to use one unless hooked up to full hook-ups, but we have a brand new 1/2horse Eco-Green disposal that uses very little water and less electricity than standard disposals and I'd love to be able to use it when we're "in port".

We scrape our dishes as clean as possible to put as few food particles as possible in the gray tank to keep the possibility of odors down.I would imagine many don't even worry about it so I wouldn't see any problem with using it.

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
While Jo and I aren't full-timing yet, I have to say that we will probably scrape the plates as good as possible prior to washing our dishes, just as Racerguy suggests.
With the grey tank on most (if not all) RV's being where it can't be flushed with fresh water via an external flush system, I would be afraid that food particles might still tend to build up in the tank. If there were a system of flushing like the black tank has on many units, it would be different.
If your system does really use less water than most, that would seem to me to be all the more reason to really need a back-flush system. With less water used, it would seem obvious that food particles wouldn't really flush out completely with what water is actually run while operating a disposal.
Basically, for that same reason, Jo and I elected to not get a dishwasher put in our fifth wheel. Not only did we save money, but we also won't be tempted to put in a dish that isn't completely wiped off.

All of your sinks should be protected by S traps, which will prevent any odors from coming back into the rig from the gray tank.
If the traps empty from jostling when you move down the road, simply turn on each faucet for a few seconds when you are set up and they will be resealed.
