Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Clothes in Spacebags in Basement

I have our winter/heavy clothes in space bags.  Wondering about storing them in suitcase in the 5er basement.  Basement is ducted.

Wondering how the clothes will do re: moisture, not getting "funky."

Experiences?  Comments?

Thanks to all!

Our basement is also ducted and although we don't store any clothes down there, we have never noticed any mustiness, or off smell in 4+ years.

We store our winter clothes in a plastic box which we keep in the back of the truck.

We're in a motor home, but have a few off-season clothes in a Rubbermaid tub in a basement bay that have done just fine.  I've pitched a few things over the years, but I have a dress in there that's been there since 2001 and it seems fine when I take it out every year or two to check (tells you how often I wear that dress I have "just in case.")

I'll bet they will stay dry and odor-free being that they are sealed in plastic space bags.

I've often wondered if stuff really comes out wrinkle-free from those bags? If so, that's great!

Right now we've got extra bedding, pillows, and stuff in space bags.  They do keep the musty smell and dampness out - oh and the bugs & critters (we have a mouse problem in the mobile home) don't bother them.

We just took a comforter out - it looked pretty darn good for spending 9 months in a space bag.

I'm not sure how well clothes will do - but I know we'll be packing extra clothing in space bags in tubs so that we can save on space - the tubs will just be to confine all the space bags.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

Yesterday was spent loading the 5er and I would say we are about half way there!

We officially move in and move out to a local RV park on the 24th of this month.

Can't wait to hit a scale the first time!  biggrin

Actually, we are trying to be extremely conservative in what we are taking.  Even down to blankets that weigh less than others.  Still....

Dave even mentioned how heavy his kilt is!  biggrin

Cheers!

Be sure not to overfill the space bags. My DW decided to clear out the closet at home and ended up with about 10 space bags, after about 6 months half of them had come un-sealed. I attributed it to the bags being over filled.

Bear makes a good point. We had one we put three quilts in and it kept coming unsealed. We thought it was a faulty valve.Took one out and now it stays sealed.

I always put a couple dryer sheets in bags (regular, not space bags) when I am storing clothes, sheets, towels, etc. Keeps them smelling good and keeps the varmints out.
