Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
As per my updated signature, our new Mobile Suites is NOW parked on our camper pad. It came into Oklahoma City on Tuesday, April 27 and after having all prep work done, installation of the washer and dryer, and matching the truck to the trailer, we picked it up today.
Now we begin the process of learning all the systems that are a part of it and begin to "lighten our load" stuff-wise. A neighborhood garage sale is scheduled for next Saturday, and we hope to sell a lot of that stuff plus some furniture.
Still wishing and hoping for a buyer on our home, but we will begin preparation anyway to possibly move into the fifth wheel and practically empty the house of furniture.
I also hope to be able to start a Smugmug account soon and post some pictures of our RV equipment and other photos that I have taken over the years.
Also, let me congratulate those that have recently gotten their units. Life is good, and my annual physical yesterday shows me to be in excellent health, especially for someone nearing 64.
Now, we hope that we can still afford our plans for a 2 week vacation in Colorado in August. Then, we can really give the Mobile Suites a shakedown.
Again, my sincere thanks to all of you that helped us choose our RV Dream unit by answering my seemingly unending questions. You have all been a huge help. Thank you all and may God bless you with more than you could imagine.
Terry

Terry and Jo, congrats!!!! Don't worry about your never ending questions because newbies like me have (had) the same questions or some that I never thought of so you are an integral part of all of us trying to figure out what unit would fit each others lifestyle. Not to mention that you also answered a lot of questions for others based on past experience and your research. This truly is a great big family to be a part of. Looking forward to hearing about your shakedown trip!!!
Terry, congratulations on the new Suite. I saw your post over on the Suite forum. My wife and I are also looking at a Mobile Suite but will probably be looking for a late model used unit but unless something just falls into our lap will probably wait until next spring. We plan to list the house next spring and hit the road sometime before winter 2001. I too have appreciated all you your posts. Look forward to meeting on the road sometime.

Dave,
While I know you are in Illinois, check out the link I posted on the SOITC forum under "Dealers" about Rolling Retreats in Elk City. They have some nice used Mobile Suites units. I remember the lady there, Alicia, telling me that she had one guy from Arizona call her and make arrangements to buy one before she even got it on their website.
We saw her website and drove over to Elk City, and their units looked as good as the photos showed them to be. Alicia and her husband buy most of their units at auction after they have been repossessed. Then they go through them and check out the systems and clean them up.

Thanks, Terry I've looked at the Rolling Retreats web site several times. My first task is decide on a truck. I'm thinking I want a MDT but have not decided that for sure. Thanks for your help.
Congratulations T & J! Thanks for all your helpfull posts about the process you have gone thru. I bet the wait to full time is getting even more difficult now that that beautiful 5er is sitting there. --Rod
Congratulations on your new MS!! Congratulations on your excellent bill of health. Now we will say a prayer and keep our fingers crossed for a great sell on your house. :) Sounds like it is all falling into place nicely. Hope to see ya down the road very soon.
now I am going to guess that yo just can't stay out of your new RV ... can you... sit in your S&B for a moment then thinking you need to check something out in the fiver... probably going to spend a few nights in the driveway in it too... aren't you... best of luck...
Congratulations to you both on getting your new home "home."
We are gradually loading our 5er and, like heyduke says, it is sort of hard to stay out of it now. "Guess I'll take some cycling clothes out." "Gee, might as well put this in." We may be about a month from truly moving in, but seems lately there are more and more "reasons" to go out there!
Have fun!

Congrats on your new rig, Terry and Jo. I LOVE the model you picked. I have been doing extensive research into 5th Wheels and I'm convinced Mobile Suites is my favorite!! We have a dealer here in our town and a friend of mine sells them.....I walked through several and fell in love!
Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll ever have one....my hubby who was all excited about selling our home and getting a motorhome or 5th wheel....has now done an about face. At first I was reluctant....then after finding this website (Howard and Linda) and all of the others I've found I began to get excited about planning this in a few years. Now Wayne says...he doesn't want to sell our home and put all of the money into a rig that will depreciate and if we change our mind later we will not have enough money to buy another home.
So, I'll just continue to live vicariously through you all on this forum!
Congratulations Terry and Jo on your new MS. It is great that you are healthy and ready to try out your RV. All your research and questions have paid off and you can feel confident that you have made a wise decision as you venture out on this new adventure.

The really imporant response to this topic is the one posted by Melanie. I hope others will chime in here.
MELANIE:
There are ways you and Wayne can try out this lifestyle without risking all of your net worth. Why not buy a very small and older unit and do some weekend camping? You might not have to drive far to find some neat places to camp.
We have met quite a few couples that started out doing this part-time and after a few months or a year or two decided to go full-time. We have also met couples where the reluctant one changed their mind and went full-time. You at least owe it to yourselves to get a taste of your dream.
Don't let yourself wake up 10 years from now regretting that you never gave it a shot.
This is a pretty neat lifestyle. From our own standpoint there is no way we would ever want to buy and live in a house again. Renting makes so much more sense.
Hold on tight to your dreams.

Well said George, somewhere on this forum is the story by Bubba Dan. His wife was totally against any RVing at all.Eventually she agreed to exactly what you said and if I remember right Dan and his wife just finished a very successful trip. Not everyone is cut out for full timing but why not RV as often as you are comfortable with and decide from there. By the way, congratulations Terry and Jo on your new home.We have been on the road since April 27th and hope you can soon join us.

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
We agree with both Georges. We have always enjoyed camping, but had never really give it a thought that we would full time. Last year some friends turned us onto a camp ground that is family oriented, but also there are a lot of snowbirds that spend their summer months there. We were 1 1/2hrs from our house, so we would come home on Fridays, do our errands and yard and go back up Sunday. We got a small taste of the lifestyle, now we are so ready to join in. It cost $20 a year to join the association and $180 a month for a site with W/E they have a honey wagon comes around twice a week cost $5, well worth it not to have to move and they do all the work.. For anyone that may be passing through or thinking of a place to park for awhile in North Central Idaho, you might check out siscraidaho.com .

George really said it well...don't give up on your dreams and then look back one day and wish you had given it a try. There are many different ways to achieve this goal. It is an awesome lifestyle and one worth investigating. Now with that said...it isn't for everybody but you will never know if you don't try. We don't ever want to own another house. We have "been there done that" and really enjoyed the experience. But now we enjoy the freedom that comes with NOT being tied down to a house and all the upkeep that comes along with that ownership. Houses are not appreciating as they used to and perhaps never will again. If and when we come off the road we will look into options such as renting or leasing. I wouldn't be opposed to a park model etc. Owning a house is not something we need any longer. I like the freedom. George is right....it is a pretty neat lifestyle. Do hang on to your dreams.
Terry and Jo I can't say enough about the joy you all are about to experience. There just aren't enough words to describe it. If I had to use one word I probably would say - freedom. There is a freedom you wouldn't believe.
Congratulations again on your new home!!! Oh the places it will take you!! :)
Congrats on the new rig. I know you will enjoy it. I am on the verge of fulltiming. By the time this weekend is over I will be there. Hard to believe. Will continue to work but looking forward to having all this move done and enjoy the time at the lake or wherever I park it. Best of luck to you.
