Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Does anyone of an opinion on airbags or the Maxloader spring helpers.
I read on another site, that a guy had airbags then added the Maxloaders now he rarely uses the airbags.
I have found the Firestone airbags for around $ 280 free shipping and the Maxloaders are $ 500 free shipping for a 1ton truck.

Hey George, Not sure yet, I have read post that they both give more stability to the SWD 1tons. With the Jayco hooked-up I do get some sag in the rear. This is our first 5ver so I am trying to get as much info as I can absorb. On another site the guy answered that we had almost identical set-ups but his Dodge truck was a dually. He tried airbags then added the Maxloaders and now rarely uses the airbags. Our Jayco is new to us so it is not fully loaded, meaning we haven't sold the house yet. I do have a 75 gallon fuel tank and tool box in the bed and will also be carrying the Champion 3500 Gen. behind the 5th wheel.

Now I understand why you are looking into this. Did not realize you were not Dually. Hopefully someone with practical experience can help you with this. Have you tried Diesel Truck Resource .Com? A lot of knowledge on that forum.

2fer, I use Timbrens as an overload, at WAY less money than either airbags or the other item. They only come into play if required and do not change the unloaded aspects of the truck. Go to http://www.truckspring.com/timbren_285.html and see if that is what you want to do.
Thanks Ken, I checked and there is a Dealer in Boise. I am definitely going to look-in to these.

Just remember when adding and air system they go where the bump stop is. That is the last place you are suppose to touch not the first. Is there a cross member on the frame above where the air bag system goes? Your Truck is designed with leaf springs not air springs stick with how it was designed. P.S. the Dodge is not that heavy of spring they put spacers under the factory spring so they could get more deflection good ride but!!! PS also Timbrens are just a big rubber or poly bump stop non blow up air bag same issues as air bags its a band aid no matter what some one might say. You can hold up your Truck with a 4x4 but do you want to?

We have added the Firestone Airbags, and with 30 lbs it really made a difference with out the trailer. If you noticed in earlier post, with auxiliary full tank w/75 gals of fuel, a tool box, and 5th wheel hitch theres close to a 1000 lbs or more before we hook-up. I am going to hook on this week and go to a truck-stop and get a combo weight see where we stand.

Ron you will be surprised when you see what your weight is. The pin weight will be the surprise I would guess. But I don't really know to much about the Jayco 5er. I have used Timbrens on a 2500HD in the past, however the only way I fixed the problem was by going to a GM 3500 1 ton Dually. Pin weight is normally the issue with certain type Trucks. Just a suggestion but make sure prior to getting on the Scales your loaded up the same way you will be RVing. GBY...

Just remeber to keep the little ubolt that hold the bag in place tight and re torque the main ubolt on the inside so you don't wear a hole in your axle under the air bag we have seen it happen before.
Thanks for the tips, we will be headed for Alaska in a few weeks knowing there could be some rough roads we will be keeping an eye on the bags, thanks for the tip Springman. Delaine and Lindy, Wow a beautiful set-up you have. When and if our Stix n Bricks sells we will be definitely be looking to upgrade our TV. On your MDT is the cost much higher for licensing and insurance over a 3500 or 4500? You know,

Yes the freightliner is more than the GM 3500 but we have the MDT replacement valued at $90,000 the GM 3500 was valued at $45,000. But Freightliner and the Mobile Suite is Insured by the same company and that does give us a discount. Delaine said if you ever ride in a Professional upgraded MDT you will never go back to the Trucks with the Steel suspension. GBY....
