Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
While we sort out the right truck/trailer for FT, which is probably two years from now, we thought about towing a small TT for an upcoming cross country trip, and weekend trips for now. We have a new E-Series van, small V8, used in our business, which is rated to tow well within the loaded weight most lightweights are rated to carry. This is a short-term use for us, but would allow us to travel while we decide on our ultimate combo for FT. I spoke to someone who said that the van, given its side surface area, might make for excess wind buffeting, even with a strong Equalizer or Husky sway control hitch. Any thoughts would be most welcome. The van is rated to tow 6000 lbs, and possible 19'TT weighs 3700 dry. Any thoughts? Another possible solution would be to buy the Diesel we plan to use in two years, now, but if I could be reasonably confident that the van might work for now, I'd prefer that,till we are ready to FT. I know that many of you have a lot of experience with towing, mine is limited. Last two RV's were motorized. Thanks,

I looked for an E-Series diesel van for our combo but decided upon a Ford Excursion. The surface area on a van is not much larger than mine and we have not regretted it.
Of course, the Excursions are all used now but I've found that it to be a very steady TV. I changed out the tires to 285-75R16's and it made a world of difference.
The diesels are rated to tow 10K and the Gas around 9K so you shouldn't have a problem towing whatever you want... except a fifth wheel!

Thank you so much. The E-Series van I have is a cargo van, and as such has no insulation, or rear AC. Summer temps here go way over 100, and I've been advised against using it for that reason. We are in the middle of negotiating with the dealer for a new F-250, DSL, BUT while doing so, we saw an 04 Excursion DSL on the lot. It does have 77K on it though, but it looks to be in great shape...Decisions,decisions... I wish my mother were still around to make them for me. Thx again for the info on the Excursion. It may very well be the right solution, but I need to decide soon.
