They are separates, But, I think we are fine. A local dealer found an electric dryer made by Whirlpool that is a 110V unit instead of 240V. As far as appearances go, it won't match the washer, but in the Mobile Suites, both units will sit back into a cabinet anyway.

For Your Information:

Jo and I have ordered a set of Whirlpool appliances. While we no longer need answers to our specific questions, feel free to still comment for the benefit of anyone else that is interested in washers and dryers for their units.

Also, I posted my original question on two other forums, and the answers I got don't bode well for the Pinnacle (by Majestic) set of washer and dryer. Apparently there have been a number of complaints with both the washer and dryer.

For anybody looking in the future, Sears makes apartment sized units that Carriage has been using for some years now and I've never seen a complaint about dependability on their forum.

When we were on the houseboat we got a wonderful combo model from Compactappliance.com. Sadly we sold it when we sold the houseboat. We've been looking for one for the mobile home - and would like to get one for the motorhome if there's room.

The one we were really wanting was an LG with steam - but they're hard to find. Compactappliance.com is a pretty good site to check out small appliances for RV's.

Karen and John,

We haven't used either of them very much since we haven't moved into our fifth wheel full time. Jo did use both a week or so ago just to make sure they worked. If I get a chance later, I'll ask her for her opinion of what she thought of them.

Both units are front loaders, although they don't match exactly. the washer has a glass door and the dryer we chose does not. While there was a dryer that had a glass door, it did not run on 120V electrical current. It was a 240V only.

As for the dryer, I don't remember the model number for certain, so here is a link to a Whirlpool dryer that looks like ours. While Whirlpool has two that look alike, this one is the one that is 120V electric:

Edit: OK. I checked with Jo and she said that all she did was run the washer through a cycle without any clothes in it. She did dry some towels that had been washed in our home washer to see how the drying worked.

She said that she was impressed with how quiet they ran. She also said that there was no vibration, however, keep in mind that the washer had no clothes in it when she used it. So, other than that very little bit of information, I have no real experience to relate to you.

We love it when the washer goes into spin cycle with a load of towels and gets a little off balance... the 5th wheel starts rockin', better than the old "magic fingers" beds in motels.

Thanks for bringing this up. When I first saw the date for my original post, I shuddered as I don't normally like to see old posts revived. However, since I've spoken of our choices, I'll also admit to our problems.

First of all, there has not been any issue with the dryer. It performs well and after doing our laundry a time or two at a laundromat in Mustang, Oklahoma, we now toss in a couple of tennis balls with the laundry to be dried. Jo says that it does seem to help with the drying, but one occasionally has to go looking for the tennis balls.

As for the Whirlpool washer, we have had to replace one and repair the second one. However, with the more sophisticated timers and control boards needed for the washer, those have given us problems. I DO NOT WANT TO SAY IT IS A PROBLEM WITH WHIRLPOOL! OK, I got that said, now to explain.

Since we have moved into our coach for full time living, we have been in the same spot of the same mobile home park here in Oklahoma City. Being that this is an older park, I am beginning to think that our problems with the washing machine dealt more with electrical issues than with problems with the machine. On two different occasions, we've had power supply issues with the electrical lines prior to getting to the meter on the pole. On one occasion, we couldn't get power and it turned out to be an "open neutral" line that was caused by the movement of trees against the line. The second was with a bad connection that an electrician had made at the top of the meter pole.

Now, while we've not had any problems with other electrical devices in the coach, I'm still hesitant to say that the electrical supply problem was all that was wrong. At any rate, I heartily recommend a good power protection system like what Progressive Industries makes. Before we get moved to Colorado, I plan on having their 50 amp system installed to protect against both low and high voltages. One important mention of their products is that they now have a lifetime warranty on their surge and power protection products. Based on what one participant on a forum mentioned, they have even retroactively applied their lifetime warranty to those products that they had sold prior to going to the lifetime warranty.

Now, for operation, the only thing that Jo doesn't like about the washer is that it doesn't have an "end of wash" buzzer to let her know when the laundry is done. The dryer does, but the washer doesn't.

Hopefully, other owners of the Whirlpool can chime in and state their experiences with theirs. That might give you a better sense of the value of the Whirlpools. When we repaired the washer this last time, I asked the repairman about the Bosch washers that their company also sells. He seemed hesitant about saying that the Bosch was "head and shoulders above" the Whirlpool with respect to maintenance issues, so I'm not sure I'd be prepared to spend $200 to $300 more for that model.

Keep in mind....Maytag and whirlpool are the same product , with control panel changes.....same assembly line!!

Bosche & LG......same components

Frigidaire lines(White Consolidated Industries) are just Bad and cheap out the gate......and rank right up there with GE

there are 7 major manufacturers would wide and over 1600 brands!!!!

splendid originated out of texas by a company called Equator....and was sold

they are great , but!!............they are limited in load size , also service is limited because it was not accepted in the domestic market (S&B)......so you are almost forced to go to an RV servicer to get it repaired.

of course this applies to most appliances in RV's.....

Most domestic appliances warranties are voided when used in an RV unless you have it in writing......normally just the improper installation will void it.....and that occurs as soon as you put it in an RV.......unless your Static

Mike's last comment about warranties doesn't apply in our situation. Both of our washers were purchased from the same local appliance store. The first one was old enough that the factory warranty was out of date. When we had the issue with the bad connection on the line for the second machine, the warranty was (and still is) in effect, so there was no expense on our part for the repair.

It all boils down to whom one buys from. We are fortunate that our "dealer" for the W/D stands behind their sales. Now, if we were traveling, it might be that other "dealers" might not be so generous if the manufacturer's warranty is voided because of being in an RV.

I guess that if we have problems with the new washer after we move to Colorado, we may find out that Mike's comment is very true.

We bought a Maytag Washer and Sears Dryer from a Sears Outlet Store in Tampa while we were traveling.
We have had the units almost a year and 1/2 now and we wash everything in them, they have performed great, no problems at all.

We paid about $800 for both units and one reason we got them from Sears was since we are on the move all the time, there are Sears everywhere is we needed any warranty repairs.

Just FYI.

I have Maytag washer model# MAH2400AWW, and dryer model # MDE2400AYW both front loaders.

The washer will run on 30A but the dryer is 50A. Both have worked flawlessly for the past 4 yrs.

We have used the Splendide 2100XC in our coach while full-timing for over 4 years. The unit has performed very well for us and I have only had to make repairs twice. The folks at Splendide were friendly and easy to work with while troubleshooting.

We were considering changing brands to an LG since we have to replace our washer. Unfortunately it's too deep for the closet. Are the laundry closets all standard sizes?

keep in mind when looking at laundry equipment.......domestic (Household) type have alot more weight....they are designed to have a faster spin speed so they have larger counter balance weights installed on them....they also use alot more water than those normally installed in recreational vehicles.....hence they are larger

On our DRV Mobile Suites, the compartment from the back wall to the front lip of the cabinetry around the area is 27". Our Whirlpool front loading washer is just over 22" deep, which is just about right to allow for the hoses and such behind and still be able to close the doors to the compartment. I noticed that the LG 2.3 cu. ft. washer is 24" deep. I doubt that we could put that in ours either. We might, but it would be close, considering the faucets and such. I also noticed that LG's compact dryer is also 24" and is ventless. Not sure I would like a ventless, but I've never had one either.
