Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Induction Cooktops

Hi All,

Still in the searching phase but curiosity came crawling into my head.

Looking recently at two shows along with looking at a few RV Dealers and of course, the internet, I notice that an Induction Cooktop is not an option.  While I wouldn't mind the gas cooktop, I like the idea of the induction for safety reasons (one less point where gas goes).

Has anyone ever thought of putting one of these in their units?  I understand that they draw a lot of power but curiosity just got to me.

Thanks in advance.

Not positive, but I believe they require 220 volts service.

Thanks Fred.

Didn't think about that.  That's why I'm doing homework!

Gary,

Like you I like the idea of less gas and also less heat in the summer inside our coach.  For Christmas, Ethel gave me an induction burner similar to a hot plate.  I use it every day!  I love it.  No heat, no flame and fast!  It is quite similar to a microwave oven, but is a surface burner.  We carry it on the coach and use it in the house.

Fred, it operates on 110 AC, and while it is possible a stove top might require 220.  I would imagine it, too, would use 110, but require more amperage with the multiplicity of heating elements.

The unit is built bysold by Athena Brands, and there are some listed on Amazon.  The website for the MAX Burton is www.athenabrands.com/prepardness/inductioncooktop.html.

We love ours and the way it performs.

Charles

Thanks Charles.

I was kind of hoping to do away with the gas burners completely but this may not work. I've looked at the portable units and that was always a consideration.

The "Homework" continues!

I don't think this is exact answer to your question, but thought I'd throw this in.  I purchased a 2 burner electric hotplate because I don't always want to mess around with the gas either.  I love this hotplate.  It has a larger size burner on 1 side & a smaller plate on the other.  It heats up really quickly.  I close the cover on my gas cooktop & set the hotplate there.  It works great.  I bought it at Walmart.

Thanks Cindy. That's always an option.

My goal was to get rid of the gas burner for a cleaner look in the kitchen but that doesn't look like it's possible. The units I've looked at so far all looked nice but that little gas cooktop just takes away from the look, to me anyhow.

Will keep doing the research though.
