Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Sadly, a Sort of a Saga Ends

Last weekend, I posted questions regarding the items we were considering on deleting in order to get the price of the Mobile Suites 38TKSB3 down a little more.  I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who responded with such valuable comments.  I have come to value the opinions of all of you in our search for our Dream RV.

We went back to the dealer with our price sheet with the options we elected to take and put the Dinette Slide powered awning back into the equation.  With all the answers from so many respondents, we decided that the Honda EU3000IS will be sufficient for what we anticipate.

While waiting in the dealership, I wandered through the part and accessories area, where I spotted a different satellite system.  It is a portable one that can be moved around outside to a location with access to the satellite, and then it finds the signal on its own.  Priced at about $745, it is a whole lot cheaper than buying the Winegard on the roof of the fifth wheel.  Plus, that is less in the way of holes that is put in the roof.

Our salesman, who is also an assistant manager or something there, then started crunching the numbers.  When he gave us the news, it was crunch time for Jo and me.

So, I am pleased to announce that we put down our deposit and ordered the Mobile Suites 38TKSB3.  Based on forum comments that DRV takes about 12 weeks to build a fifth wheel, we should get ours sometime in mid to late May.  So, unless something drastic happens, it is a DONE DEAL.

Of course, for those that aren’t aware of our plans, when our home sells, we will be living full time in the Mobile Suites while we continue to work.  Then, once we retire, we will be able to hit the road full time.  Until then, vacations and long weekends will have to suffice.  But at least the dream will have begun.

We should get the Mobile Suites in time to go to an Oklahoma state park for either Memorial Day weekend or July 4th weekend.  That way we can test things out more before we take our two week vacation in August up near Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Oh, but wait……

……..the subject title said, “Sadly”.

Well, that is because now that our decision has been made, I’m going to have to find something else to while away my time instead of researching RV’s.  Maybe I can now get some of those “other irons out of the fire” like completing the digitizing of my collection of vinyl records to put on CD’s.  Of course, I will continue to keep up with the forums and the friends that I have met there.

Thanks again to all of you.  We really look forward to meeting face to face someday.

Terry

Congratulations on your decision. You really went about it in very thorough manner and should be very happy with your choice.

Congratulations!!  It sounds like you got exactly what you wanted, which makes it even more exciting.  It feels great, doesn't it? :)  I'm sure you'll find many other things to analyze...I know that my research and analysis skills are still being heavily utilized!

Congratulations on ordering your new trailer. You did your reseach and now you can stand confident with your decision that you will have a great top of the line trailer to travel this great country of ours. We want to wish you both the best as you prepare the items you will take with you. Hope all goes well with the sale of your house. Our house sold quickly and we lived in our rv for 8 months before hitting the road fulltime.

Great news and on a side note, have you considered instead of burning CD's of your vinyl records, to transfer them to your PC hard drive or an external hard drive. 160G and up external drives are extremely cheap and would save space and weight (depending on how many vinyls you have).

Sherri and I lived in our RV for 3 years while I finished out my time. We are working on our 4th year now and have enjoyed every minute of it. Will be glad to see how everything goes for you.

Congratulations! I agree with Connie deciding on the RV after all the research is a load off the mind but there are lots of things to do and decide on before you take off in your rv so you will be "happy" soon with all the fun new things you will be looking at.

Thanks, Everyone.  As anyone could probably guess, I am now anxiously waiting for May to arrive.  At work, my desktop computer's background is one of the photos that I took of the Mobile Suites 38TKSB3 that we went to Springdale, Arkansas to see and take photos of.  And, the screen saver on the computer is made up of all the photos that I took.  We had seen photos before, but this unit has a desk angling between the entertainment center and the kitchen peninsula.  We wanted to actually see one so we could get the perspective of how much space the desk takes up.

Since I still haven't broken down to get a Smugmug account to post photos on, the best I can do for SoonToTravel is provide a link to Wheels RV in Springdale and let you see the photos of the one we saw there.  Our unit will have different fabric from the Wheels RV unit as ours is Chestnut Blue.  It can be seen in the online brochure at DRV Suites website.  Here is a link to Wheels RV:

http://wheelsmotorrv.com/DoubleTree.html

For Karen's benefit, the tricky title was actually stolen from another source.  Back in WWII, there was a newspaper artist that drew cartoons for some military newspapers.  After the war, he wrote a book with many of those drawings and his narrative called "Up Front".  His name was Bill Mauldin.  When he returned from the war, he wrote a book about growing up in New Mexico called, "Sort of a Saga".  So, everyone can now know to watch out for old Terry.  He is a despicable individual that "copies".

One other thing to mention is that one of the "irons in the fire" that I have is a book that I am working on.  Jo has been trying for years to get me to do something along that line.  So, I am working on a photo book.  On one page will be narrative and comments and on the facing page will be one of my photographs.  Since I have a strong faith in God, many of my comments will be related to the beauty of God's creation, both in landscape and creatures.  Wish me luck.

Terry

Mite want to offer 700 dollars for that satellite system, that was the price in Quartzsite and Yuma. I've heared lots of good about them from owners.
