Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Not sure about the two campgrounds you have mentioned, however we have stayed in Lake Placid and in the Gulf Shores area.

The campground is always very important, but we find that if we are planning to stay any length of time, what the sorrounding area has to offer is equally, if not more important than the campground itself.

IMHO, the Lake Placid area, while very nice is an area that retired people enjoy a quiet and peaceful life. But, in comparison, The Gulf Shores area offers so much within a short drive that you will find a myrid of things to occupy your time.

Bottom line, is when you leave the campground, what is the menu of activities that you most enjoy?

Gulf Shores State Park is a nice park with lots to do around the area. If you are looking for a nice "social park" in the area, I would suggest that you look to Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale, Alabama. Lots of fulltiming RVers with more than enough activities and social event to fill your calendar. Pricing is about the same for the Escapees Rainbow Plantation and the Gulf Shores State Park. Not sure this is the kind of information you're looking for but hope it helps.

We are looking at Gulf shores for November and December of 2010 because it is close to home and we can drive home for the holidays if we like and leave the trailer at the park. So, safety is a major concern. We are familiar with the gulf shores area as far as things to do, but we r not familiar with the RV parks. We have just been fulltimers since October of this year. We are in Mercedes Texas this winter at the LLano Grande and would like to find a reasonable but nice park in central Florida for Jan/Feb./March. We are familiar with the area of Lake Placid, but again we r not familiar with the park. We r open to other suggestions for parks in either area. Thanks for your help...

You might try Anchors Aweigh in Foley Ala. We have been here for two winters very nice RV park. All sites have Concrete pads and very close to shopping. We went back to home base each Dec for two weeks and have had no issues. You can check availibility on 15 Feb. That will be the day you can reserve a site if they have any left for 2010/2011.
