Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

FIRE SUPPRESION SYSTEM IN DIESEL ENGINE COMPARTMENT

We are registerred for Nick Russell's Gypsy Journal Rally in Yuma, AZ March 8-12. I noticed in Nick's preliminary and impressive seminar line up that Mac McCoy, "The Fire Guy" will be there. Mac provides a fire suppression system and I have been thinking about getting one of them for the diesel engine compartment.

I would like to hear from others that have one. Can it be self installed? Did you get a discount on your RV insurance? Does it require any maintenance?

Hi George...we have the fire suppression system from Mac. Bob installed it himself (easy), we know of no maintenance and also no known discount on our insurance...guess you could ask! It is very good peace of mind!!
If you attend his seminar you will buy every fire extinguisher he has!

We bought one in Sept. of 08 while at the rally in Ohio.
We installed it ourselves but it did take some engineering to mount because of the space in out engine compartment.
We even had "Mac" look in the compartment and give us some insight as to the placement.
His knowledge on fire systems is second to non.
We didn't get a break on the insurance, but we feel better going down the road.
We also bought several other hand extinguishers from and replaces the regular ones that came with the unit.

On a side note we also bought and installed ourselves an EMS system and we know that it has saved us from having damage already.
