Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Frozen Pipes

I'm in Grand Jct, CO and have frozen water pipes. I'm in an '02 Monaco Diplomat and cannot 'follow' the water pipes outside the water storage bay, which is heated. Does anyone know where the pipes may be, the owner's manual doesn't supply that info.

Quick help would be so much appreciated.

Are you hooked up to a campground water supply? It's very possible that the line is frozen on the outside and not in your rig. When it's below freezing it's best to fill your fresh water tank and work off that, disconnecting the water supply till you need to refill the tank. The same advice applies to the sewer hose. It should be disconnected. Only hook it up to dump.

Are you hooked up to an outside water source or on your onboard water tank?

If you are hooked up to an outside water source and it is below freezing then the water hose is most likely frozen.  If you are on the onboard water tank you will have to use the propane furnace as that is what keeps your basement warm.  Alot of people use electric heat which will sometimes allow the basement to reach freezing temps.

If it is very cold you may what to look at safely placing a ceramic heater with thermostat in your basement (this is what I do at home since we are not fulltime yet).

You can open the cabinets under your sinks to keep them warm and prevent freezing...

Even though we're in the deep south we put heat trace http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productList&N=4294961544&Ne=4294967294&Ntk=i_products&Ntt=pipe+heat 
   on the water hose and then wrap it all with pipe insulation. Even when we were in Texarkana during the ice storm our lines never froze.

Thank you all for your pretty qucik response.

I'm running the furnace and have the cabinet doors open, an extra heater in the water bay.

I'm not hooked up to water or septic now, but I will just have to work through this one and hope it warms up soon.
