Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Just Talked with Dealer

The fireplace is installed and they are just waiting on delivery of the sewer boom to install that and then our Montana will be ready for us to pick up!  Whoohoo!

One scenario we're looking at is towing our TT up to the dealer (about 4-5 hours from here) on a Saturday.  They can do the walk-through and we transfer our stuff from the TT to the 5er while they install the hitch in the truck.  Then we tow our new 5er pray.gif  omfg.gif to the Rusk KOA to settle into it until Tuesday, when we hitch up and return home.

That means a LOT of driving and a VERY early start on Saturday.  I do the towing, so I'm wondering how tired I'll be by the time we head to the KOA with the 5er in tow for the first time.  Can you say I'm gonna go S L O W ? It may also mean we're setting up camp in the dark or near-dark.

The other scenario is we take our TT to the KOA on Saturday and drop it, then head to the dealer for the walk-through and final paperwork.  The dealer would tow the 5er to the KOA.  We'd have Sunday to transfer our stuff over at the KOA...they have a couple of buddy sites we've been offered (doors facing doors) and have graciously offered to comp us one of the sites.  Then on Monday we'd take our TT and truck to the dealer to leave the TT and have them install the hitch.

The slickest way seems to be the first and it's the one I'm leaning towards at this time.  All the running around done and then a couple of days to chill out.  We'd be close to the dealer if there are any initial towing problems and we would actually be at the dealer for the first 5er/truck coupling.   It will take them time to install the hitch and we could use that time for the walk-through and transfer instead of just sitting on our hands on Monday while they do it.  That would also give Monday to get back to the dealer should there be any problems we find with the 5er.

How can I be this age and be so excited?  clap.gif  It is a partial realization of a long-held dream of mine...

I imagine you will be pretty tired if you are the one doing the towing. Thats a lot of weight to pull by yourself.smile

Hey Kid,

Well, I imagine I'd be pretty whipped if I actually towed!  yawn

Should I rephrase that ...

I drive the truck
That does the towing and
Carries the dog,
That worried the cat,
That killed the rat,
That ate the malt
That lay in the 5er that Keystone built.

biggrin

You didn't say how far it was from the dealer to Rusk. And if things go as well for you as they do for us at the dealers you can expect that to take longer than expected. So, depending on the mileage to Rusk, I think I would opt for the first option. Less gas/driving involved, and, you have a couple days to live in the new rig and rest up for the drive home.

It's about 30 miles from the dealer to the KOA in Rusk.  Agreed, having two full days to chill out and explore our new home makes the first option the one I'm inclined to go with at this point.

Phyllis,

We got the 2009 3585SA model.  It has the Moving to Montana package and some other nifty bells and whistles but is not the Hickory Edition.

As a follow-up, we are go for taking delivery on our 5er next weekend!  The service dept is closed on Saturdays and no serviceperson was able to come in to do the hitch install that day.  They will deliver our 5er to the KOA in Rusk and set it up so when we arrive Saturday w/our current rig we can spend Saturday and Sunday transferring and settling in.  They will do the orientation at the KOA.  Monday we'll take our current rig to the dealer to leave our TT and have the hitch installed.  We'll come home Tuesday.

Perhaps not the way I initially wanted to do it, but I believe things do happen for a reason.  Everyone has been so nice and accommodating that I really don't mind the extra driving back to the dealer on Monday.  Too, we won't have to be setting up the 5er by ourselves for the first time in the dark on Saturday.

We are both excited and looking forward to this next step towards our adventure.  Interestingly, I think Dave is feeling just as empowered as I am in having the 5er.  We feel very much less trapped in our current lifestyle and he's made several positive comments about going forward with the full-timing adventure!

It's nice to have an escape plan out and then one back in!

Have a great weekend, all!
