Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Rant About TV Providers

I just couldn't hold back my anger/frustration any longer so I'm going to use this forum to vent....

There are several things wrong with today's TV programming & Movie production, however here are my two biggest beefs:

Number one on my list-
The little graphics that pop up on the screen while you are trying to watch a program or movie.  It used to be these were very small and in the extreme corner of the screen and just words no movement.  Now they have become full blown little movies with action, streaming text and sounds.  Last night one was actually a commercial for a new video game.  So not only are we having to sit through 5 minutes of commercials every 10 minutes of program, now the ads are invading the actual program.

What's worse is, the pay channels are beginning to do these little graphic ads showing upcoming movies, during the movies on channels like HBO, Cinemax and Showtime.  I'm paying $10 per month per channel and now having to watch commercials.

I would just like to watch a program/movie without all these extra graphics & go back to 2 minutes of commercials every 12 minutes of program.  I tend not to watch local programming anymore due to all of the commercials.

Number two on my list-
Shaky camera technique, if I want to watch a shaky scene during a program or movie, I'll get out my home movies and watch those.   Even during the heaviest action sequence in a movie there is no need for the shaky camera.  We're not stupid, we know there's action going on, you don't have to add to it by artificially shaking the camera.  If two people are sitting in a room having a conversation, there is absolutely no reason for the shaky camera.... it makes me feel like I have palsy or parkinsons disease.

If any of you have friends or family in the TV or movie business that have anything to do with production, please ask them to stop these two trends.

Thanks for listening and now back to our regular programming......

I agree,  we only have HBO when it free, ever so often we get it free and this last ime we call Direct-Tv and had them turn it off,  even free for 3 months we didn't watch it.   I don't care for all the pop-ups when your paying to watch.    We have certain channels we watch,  mostly CBS.   But the Fox new is on most of the day.  We have complained several times about channels we have no use for.   I want mention them,  but if I can't understand the language I have no reason to pay for its.   We were told that the Government forces us to show those programs so we have to send it out .    We use Net Flex just because of all the commericals.   We have watch seasonal programing such as Northern Exposure,  24,  etc and have found them very efficent.   We still do go to some movies,  but not very often,  and its because of price !!!!!!!

Hey - I agree - what is with those corner logos, etc. WE KNOW WHAT CHANNEL we are watching. We don't have to be continually reminded.

Also, the "crawl" across the bottom of most news shows. So, we are listening to one story and being distracted by headlines about another item.

We had Direct tv before we hit the road over a year and a half ago but dropped it because we felt it wasn't worth the price. We watch brocast tv when we can get it and occasionally we hit a campground that offers cable free. Otherwise we just don't miss it at all. When we did get cable we found that we were flipping through all the channels and finding nothing worth watching most of the time

We will be doing the same. At this time I just can not justify the expense of getting satellite. We will see how we make out with TV. Maybe down the road if we feel it is needed, but not at this time.

Len loves his "westerns" but has LOTS of DVD's so he can get his fix watching them.

Linda and I are a little different. We make no apology's that TV is part of our entertainment budget. My biggest complaint is the "Packaging" of programs.Usually in order to get a channel you want you have to buy a package with a bunch of worthless channels you don't want.Years ago with my old 15 foot c-band Sat at home I could buy individual channels ala cart. Now the only ala cart Dish offers is a "package" I guess it's so the Sat company's can brag about 250 channels for such and such price without telling you 200 of them are food channel 1-20 and so on. Although we feel it's a lot of money to pay we do it anyway because Linda's old movies and my Auto racing are important enough to bite the bullit.
