Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
In the last few days (less than a week) I've made the radical decision to sell everything and become a full time RVer.
It all started when the latest work frustration had me looking for new employment. Somehow I stumbled on Workamping and then it hit me. I had no idea there was such a thing; plus it's organized. Whadda 'ya know!
Soon I realized that I am in an ideal position to do this for myself; I don't have any close family ties (we all live in different states and have never been close), no kids, no community ties, just a house, full of stuff that I could sell to fund this glorious adventure.
I have always wanted to see America, especially the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Northern California, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. Now I'm going to do just that, me and my 3 dogs.
I started researching and came across this wonderful site. I was especially delighted to see that our hosts are also fellow Dave Ramseyites. It's amazing what doors open for you when you start to get out of debt and become true to yourself. The borrower is slave to the lender in more than a monetary sense. We actually adopt a slave mentality without even realizing it.
Right now I'm feeling an amazing combination of fear and excitement. I'm sure that I'm not unique in that respect, but I also have this overwhelming sense that this is the right thing for me do.
To those of you that are already full timing I know you understand. I'm happy to have found this site and this world of people who are more like me than the people I'm surrounded by now.
I'm not sure how long it will take to sell all of my stuff, fix the house so I can get top $ but having the goal of full timing will make that work situation MUCH more bearable. I look forward to reading and learning and updating you on my progress.

Congradulations, definately not crazy, as far as it being an overnight decision, i think change has been brewing for a long time, you just suddenly realized it, Good luck. G
I beg to differ with Genecop. If you're like most of the rest of us, you're probably both Crazy and Brave. At least that's what a lot of non-Rvers think of us.
Don't worry about it though, it's a great life and if it's your dream, by all means, go for it!!! We've never looked back and are really enjoying the lifestyle.
Good luck with your plans,
Jim

Brave and crazy? Abosulety both! :) It definitely takes a lot of courage to make such a major lifestyle change, but I also think it takes some craziness. But you've found many like-minded people here.
We've been going through many of the same feelings and you'll find a lot of past threads discussing the emotional aspects. It's always a comfort to know you're not alone!
So welcome and have fun exploring the site and the forum. As I'm sure you've already discovered it is a wealth of information
A job is a job is a job...so your doing it where you want to be and for a period of time that suits your mood. What the heck...if you have no ties this is the way to go. Study all the possiblities and check them out before you leap off into excepting a job. I know you will enjoy the lifestyle. Be sure to keep us all up to date on your progress.
Hello. It amazing once you make the decision how quickly some things come together and how patient you have to be for others. In the summer of 2008 we decided to become fulltime RVers and I thinkw we discussed it like on a Friday and by the end of that weekend we had everything we owned in the living room, priced and ready to sell. The next weekend we rented the community center in the next town and had a three day garage sale. Everything we own (excluding the house which is still sitting empty and on the market) is either with us or in a small storage unit close to home. It wasn't until June of this year that we became fulltime RVers. It has definitely been crazy for us to think how our lives have changed since our decision and the things we did to make it happen but we wouldn't have it any other way. Unfortunately still stuck with our empty house/acreage in NW Iowa we listed back in August 2008, that's the last of our material possessions that we need to get rid of. In June 2009 we took it off the market then in mid September 2009 we put it back on the market (with a realtor this time before it was listed with a bank the first time, bad choice) with a lot of improvements and still no movement. We are growing ever more weary about the situation every day. So I guess what I'm trying to say is all the stuff will eventually be gone but the house will be the catcher and you may be stuck with that for a long time so be sure to take that under consideration when your making plans.
Diane and I discussed this on our way down I-81 to the south end of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park yesterday. Neither of us remember being scared about becoming fulltimers. Nervous, frustrated with all the work involved, but not scared. I guess that means we were crazy. It is has been over 6 years now and we are still very happy with the decision. BTW: Even though the fall colors are not as good this year in Shenandoah NP according to others, they were fine with us and we even saw a black bear along with many white-tailed deer. Life is good.

I really don't know at this point whether it's fortunate or unfortunate, but I won't be able to do this until the house sells since I intend to pay cash for the RV. Luckily I live in a first time home buyers/empty nesters sort of neighborhood. I doubt that I will have much trouble though I do anticipate some fix up. Keeping posted, this is day 360.

You might want to check out this blog as well. They too started blogging as soon as they started the process. There are some good hints on getting things together, especially the sale of the house. Warnerrvnews.blogspot.com
I'm like you. I've always had this lifestyle in the back of my mind. I had no idea there was a community out there who could and would help. I wish I had made the right decision 10 years ago. Due to wife's retirement, we have 59 months to go. :)
By the way...you didn't mention Nevada, shame on you.
Hi Geni, We've had this dream of full timing for years, now we are much closer. Two years from yesterday I will retire. Also took Dave's FPU cource. Well on our way to debt FREE. House is on the market and looking at MHs and 5ers. The feeling could be crazy or brave, also the American spirite(sp?) of travel and adventure.
Ron, you're right! Shame on me for not mentioning Nevada! Yes, it's definitely one of the places I want to see! I actually hope to go to all 49 contiguous states at some point, but Nevada definitely belongs in my prior list. I didn't list everywhere I want to go, but obviously if I'm thinking of this lifestyle I'm wanting to go to a lot of places.
