New Floors in RV with slides

I just recently had this explained to me. They won't put all laminate floors in or in your case cork anywhere the slide comes over the floor because it would leave a big scratch mark.

Maybe with the carpeting it dosen't have to be completely level. That little flap can hide a lot. But, for some reason through my recent research, I thought I saw a new fifth wheel that has even floors with slides.

Anyone know of this?

I think the problem with the slides leaving marks varies with the brand and model of RV. It would probably be best to contact the manufacturer for advise.

I know there are some Carriage owners that have put in wood floors successfully.

I have a 2002 HITCHHIKER II that I replaced the carpet in the living, kitchen area with Allure Vinyl Flooring 3 mos. ago. No problems, and it looks really good. The only trouble was pulling out 728 lbs. of staples in the padding. I left the carpet in the slide for now.

But can you take the carpet out of the actual slide?? Not the part it slides over, but the part the couch (or whatever) sits on. We were just talking to a salesman and he told me that I have to leave the carpet on the actual slide itself. That really didn't make sense to me.

Sorry, this just doesn't make sense to me.

By the way, we put the Allure vinyl planks in our s&b when we built it last year. I love it and no one ever believes us that it's vinly and not real bamboo.

Possibly this will provide some food for thought. It is not the final word.

We just replaced the carpet in the living room area of our MH with laminated wood planks. We chose Brazilian Cherry as it is rated second in the hardness of the offerings. It has added significantly to our MH. We know of others here that have done the same.

There are slide pads available from Camping World and other sources. These are vinyl strips you place where the rollers travel. Supposedly there are two types - those to go over carpet with small nobs on the bottom and those to go over a solid surface without the knobs.

As is true in just about everything, CW is extremely proud of what they sell. (Read $$$$$$$) I went to Wally World and purchased their heaviest clear vinyl shower mat for a bath tub with suction cups on the bottom. I cut it in half lengthwise. I positioned one at each end of the slide (where the rollers are on our coach). To keep these in place, I attached the end toward the slide to the floor. They are easily removed once the slide is out.

The slide travels easily leaving no marks on the floor. Phase two of the project is to remove the pedestal dining table and couch, cover the slide with new carpet, add a custom desk/diningtable combo, another Lazy Boy reclioner and possibly an electric fireplace. The carpet will have about a three to four inch overlap to conceal the transition from floor to slide-floor.

We replaced the carpet in our Jayco 5th wheel with vinyl flooring and have had no problems with the slides. I, too, was concerned about them getting torn or scratched but not so. Of course, our friend who actually laid the floor is himself an avid RVer plus a floor coverings installer, so he might have done something I'm not aware of.

The carpet installed in the slide itself is still there.

I think you can replace the carpet in almost any slide. Most use a wooden or metal trim on the edge of the slide. My slide raises about the floor and rides there. There was no marks, or damage to my carpet, or vinyl so I wasn't worried about damage to the Allure. Your right. Mine looks really good too, and the room looks bigger having just the Allure instead of a strip of vinyl in from of the kitchen cabinets then carpet down the middle.

I really like the Allure vinyl plank idea. I read reviews of it on the Home Depot site and 2 our of the three reviews complained about the seams coming unglued after a short period of time. Has anyone had this problem?
