Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello everyone,

 I am new here but have been reading the forum for a while. I grew up camping in the Scouts and enjoyed tent camping very much. Well once I got married I found out my wife wasn't as enthusiastic as I was when it came to tent camping. So we compromised on a RV. That way I could be out in the great outdoors and my wife could camp in luxury (if you can call it camping), but I'm not complainingbiggrin. Well we started with a travel trailer and now have a 5er. I have dreams of one day becoming a fulltimer but still need a fulltime job for now. So I read these forums and dream, but we do take the 5er out on weekends and several weeks in the summer for practice to become fulltimers. Well anyway I thought I would make myself known and join the forum.

Steve and family, Welcome to the forum. We started by dreaming of RVing in the future and now we are living our dream on the road. We started camping with a tent many years ago then we went to a horse trailer, then a horse trailer with living quarters, now we are fulltiming in a fiver. We wouldn't change any of our past camping experiences but we love where we are at now. We thank God for each new day and each experience that comes our way.

Hi, we are wannabe fulltimers also but are not sure we are ready to make the jump.  Is there anyone who regrets the fulltime decision or have any negatives? We would like to know about negatives as well as positives so we can make a very well informed decision.  It is a big decision.

Welcome to these forums.  You will find a lot of useful information and friendly folks here.  We've been F/T for 14 months and love it.  At least you are able to travel with your RV for vacations right now.  Someday you will realize your dream of F/T travel.  Never give up on your dreams.

I think Howard does a good job describing both the good and not so good about full-timing so please have a read thru his articles how they got started. I recommend starting with Howards journal page located at http://www.rv-dreams.com/journal.html.

Hi William,

I'm sure that there are many people who have gone full time and then regretted it, but most of them aren't on this forum, or have left it. This group is made up mostly of people that either are living the life, or badly want to.

You have to make your own decision based on what is important to you. Everybody has different needs and wants. Some people enjoy seeing new things and going to new places, others like the stability of "home".  Some people enjoy constantly meeting new people and others like getting together with the same people for 30 years. There is no "well informed decision", because it's based on your particular wants and desires, not mine or anyone else's.

A few reasons we have heard from people not liking the full time life include

1) leaving grand children / family,
2) church / social life / entertaining,
3) passionate hobby that took a lot of room
4) garden

Lastly, remember It's not a do or die proposition. If you try it and don't like it, just move back into a house.   If you buy a used rig, the financial loss shouldn't be life shattering.

Fred, gave very good reasons why some do not like the full-time life. Medical reasons are also one.
 
Well now its my turn, after 3 yrs of full-timing we are about ready to purchase another home. Both DH and I are glad we had the chance to travel for 3 yrs. We still want the best of both worlds, to have a home and still travel, so we are looking into down size the RV we now have. Our Elite Suites is up for sale, and you can ck pics on this forum For Sale pg. We need a home base for now. I am finding most do not like to hear about the negatives of full-timing its just not for all of us.

Thank you for all your welcoming comments. I Know that fulltiming is not for everone but I sure want to at least give it a try. Since I am retired Navy obviously I have traveled the globe. Now I think I should travel this country and see what I spent a career defending. Well at least thats what I want to do when I  retire for the 2nd time.
