Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Rubber roofing over top of fiberglass roofing?

I have another question.  Does anyone know of any company (business) that will put a rubber roof over top of a fiberglass roof?  I inquired at our local RV dealer and was told that it just isn't done (I had experience with them, that they don't seem to know everything about RVs, ei: we needed a new valve for our horizontal LP tank, they told us it was not replaceable but we would have to replace the whole tank, we did find a propane specialty company that gave us the proper valve and we replaced it ourselves following their instructions - it saved us over $500).  So I do not trust their opinion about not being able to put a rolled rubber roof over our fiberglass one.  It doesn't leak, but it seems fragile due to age and at some point in the future we would like to have it permenantly sealed by a professional.  Is this possible?  Thank you in advance for your help. Ann Miller smile

You may want to consider a rolled on or sprayed on elastometric compound. It's fairly easy to do and lasts a long time. It stays flexible like rubber and is easy to repair.

Contact these folks, they may have some suggestions and can help locate a dealer.... http://www.dicor.com/

Hi Ann, we just did what thebearII suggested!  I have pics of the whole process at:

==just a few links below this one==

Our fiberglass roof wasn't leaking either, but we were told by others with the same type of Motorhome that after 10 years it developes microscopic cracks that could leak.  It wasn't too hard, just a good scrubbing first, then roll/brush on a few coats of this elastomeric coating (like thick paint) and it's all done... Easy Peasy!
