Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

My husband and I are 13 months from retirement.  After reading all of the tips from Howard and Linda we put our plan into action.  We had an estate sale on Aug. 8 & 9 and sold most of our furniture and valuables.  Then, the following weekend had an garage sale and sold most everything else that we wanted to get rid of.

We put our house on the market Aug. 8 so it would be viewed during the estate sale.  We decided to give it 14 months to sell because of the poor housing market.  Well, it sold Friday!  Twenty days after listing.  We're kind of in a state of shock right now.  It was a far-fetched dream that the house would sell quickly but didn't expect 20 days!

So, now we have to buy our RV.  We're really liking the 2003 - 2005 Winnebago Adventurer 35'.  They're a little hard to find so we may need to move into an extended stay hotel for a couple of months until we can find the perfect new home on wheels!

We love reading all your chats in the Forum and have found many useful ideas from all of you experts!  Lots of good questions and finding out things we wouldn't have even thought to ask.  So, we will be checking back often once we get our rig to have you experts help us get used to this new life. 

Anxious to join all of you out there on the road.

Congratulations on the sale of your house!!!  What state are you in?  We have our house on the market (also allowing for 2 selling seasons), but haven't had much traffic.

We're in Washington state.  We have a manufactured home on our own property.  It was in the $200,000 range so that's probably why it sold.  They say that's about the only price range that's selling.  Plus, we're close to Ft. Lewis and McChord AFB so get a lot of military turnover.  It was an Army family that bought ours.

I've been researching for about two years.  My parents owned 32 RV's of all sorts in their lifetimes, so I kind of know what we wanted.  We bought a 2004 Winnebago Adventurer, 35U.  We'll have a year to get used to living it in before we hit the road.

Right on, Jim.  The salesman will show you what he wants to sell.  You just take your time. Sit in the chair, stand in the shower, imagine yourself cooking dinner.  This is your home, not a weekend camper.  You will know when it feels right.

Good for you!  My wife and I are looking to follow your path.  We have researched and decided upon an RV and power unit, and we are thinking that we may travel to Kerrville next month to spend time at the RV Dreams get-together to talk with experined RVers and to soak up all of the information we possibly can to help make the transition as easy as possible.  We are interested in selling our house in Myrtle Beach, SC and will have to sell before we can take the next step.  Hopefully our place will go as quickly as yours!

Great advice!  My mom said they would have NEVER bought their motorhome if she had taken the time to SIT on the toilet (lid down) to try out the maneuverability in the small enclosed room it sets in.  Because the door enters from the side, and the toilet faces the front of the rig, there is a wall facing you as you sit on the toilet.  The problem:  when you lean forward to take care of ... ummm .. paperwork....  you hit your head on the wall!  Not a good layout for the bathroom.

Hi Everyone, couldn't help but add my two cents worth.  I retired in Jan 08 and my wife two months later.  We had long discussions.  Eventually she wanted to move north to be closurer to family.  But in the mean time decided we would full time.  We put the house on the market.  They posted the sign at 9:00am and we had a full offer by the end of the day.  That first offer fell through, but we had another full offer right behind that one and it went through.  We had a large garage sale and stored the rest of our stuff.  We started living full time in Sept of 08.  Notice I didn't say "started full timing".  We had some dental issues to take care of first.  Then in Jan we headed for Quartzsite.  From there we went to Yuma and that's when everything fell apart.  My wife suffered a medical problem and went into the hospital and into surgery the first night in Yuma.  Recovery was slow along with the metal aspect.  As I write we are in Astoria touring the Lewis and Clark history.  We've suffered several problems but sofar have been able to over come them.  We are currently considering an area to hunker down for the winter.  Probably in nothern CA around family and friends.  That's all for now.

Congratulations to you folks!  That is great news and you must be so excited.  We are fulltimers for 13 months now, and we will never go back to sticks and bricks.  We love the freedom to change locations at the drop of a hat.  Good luck to you as you find your way!
