Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello everyone! TnT stands for Terry and Tracie, by the way.
Crumbs, I just wrote a looong post and it just went to a white screen when I hit "send." So here's trying again.
Terry lost his job last fall, but since I have a successful web business, we have been living off my income and doing okay. Now he has started a website that we feel will also be successful, so we are thinking NOW might just be the time to take the "plunge."
We have been thinking about doing this for years, but were never really sure we ever would. Now that our daughter has left home and we hate Texas, this seemed like the perfect time to find out if this is for us.
We LOVE the outdoors and would be happy camping the rest of our lives I think. We love being together, so living in close quarters should not be a problem either. We have been married for 28.5 years and are best friends. I am tired of owning all this "stuff" and will be thrilled to have a small place to clean.
We plan on attending the RV thing in Kerrville this fall, but thought it would be great to start reading and asking questions now. We really need to make sure this is the thing for us and find out what is the best type of RV for us also.
I will head to the other part of the forum to ask my questions, so that I follow the rules.
We look forward to getting to know all of you here.
Tracie

Are you planning to workamp to supplement your income? If you are I recommend workamper.com. It's a subscription site, and it lists jobs all over the country. Have you looked over Howards' financials data? It's a good way to estimate your costs when you start full-timing it...

We might have to work to supplement our income, but hopefully not. I work a ton of hours with my website, and I don't think we want to "work" any more. LOL
I printed out the Budget worksheet so that we can estimate our expenses and see what it really takes. I am pretty sure we can afford to do this, but the hard part is figuring our taxes and such. My business is established and so I can estimate my income pretty well, but Terry's website isn't really finished and we don't know what his income will be. :-/
We have a LOT of "what ifs" in this thing that we need to nail down. We need to figure out what kind of RV, how much we need to spend to get it and things like that before we can go any further. So I guess that is our next step. If we can purchase the RV/truck or MH and not be in debt, then we are good to go.
Thanks for the reply. Tracie

I find the whole working while camping thing to be grand. Nothing like being on a con call and having people ask "What's that" only to tell them it's a diving hawk.
For a web business your going to need to make sure of your data connections. We've had to move a few times because the Cell phone coverage was only so so. But we don't have all the equipment we need yet. Adding it in one thing at a time I guess if we stopped camping / RVing we could afford to finish getting it.
Good luck though sounds like your nicely setup to head out.
We actually already have a portable antenna for my Sprint USB key, but it is a great idea to look at the coverage map before planning a trip somewhere. We will mostly be staying in one area, because we would like to get involved with a community somewhere as volunteers. It's just who we are, and we would be miserable just living for ourselves. I am sure we would die young for lack of purpose.

Welcome, this is definitely the place to be for info and knowledge.
We have been following this site for over a year now and printed out all of Howard & Linda's preplanning info and it has helped tremendously.
There is a lot of work to be done in the preplanning stages. I was shocked at how much "stuff" we have when I started going thru it!
There are lots of great folks who post regularly on this site, much more helpful and friendly than other sites.
As Howard has mentioned numerous times in his daily journal the full time lifestyle is very personal and not for everyone.
I try and live by the motto that the greatest growth comes when I face my fears and at first I was very afraid of making the wrong decision when it comes to RVng but we took the plunge over a year ago and we haven't looked back.
We are still only full time wannabe's in the weekend camping and preparing for full timing stage but it has strengthened our relationship and we are going forward and someday our dream will be fullfilled! Susan
Welcome to this great forum. You will learn much and meet fine people here.
As to what you buy. I suggest you use your time in Kerrville to find out why people at the rally own what they own. 5er owners will tell you that is the way to go. Diesel pusher folks will tell you they made the best decision. And those who pull trailers will tell you it is the only way to go.
And all are correct!!!
By listening and asking questions and seeing a variety of floor plans, you can make a wiser decision in deciding how you want to travel.
I look forward to meeting you in the Texas Hill Country.
