Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Cold Water Trickle from Shower Head
Permalink Closed

When we shower, we push the button on the top of the shower head to decrease the water flow while we soap up.  There is a trickle of cold water & when we turn the water back on to rinse, the water is always very cold for several seconds.doh  This has happened with all of our campers.  Does anyone know why this happens & is there anything we can do to fix this problem?

Ours is opposite, the trickle is hot and when you push the flow back on it's very hot for a few seconds.

The trickle is normal. The RV dealer said it prevents pressure build up in the hose so it won't blow out of the compression connector (we've had that happen before, water was every where). The connector had cracked and wouldn't hold, so we had to replace the hose.

Every RV we've had it's been the same. We have a similar setup in both showers in our sticks & bricks home and they operate the same. Small trickle when the button is in. It's strange, one shower is cold like yours the other shower is hot like ours....

We've just learned to point the showerhead away from us for a few seconds when we push the button to turn the flow back on. The cold trickle would be harder to live with though.

I'm assuming you have a handheld showerhead like most RVs, maybe install a small shutoff valve (like used on a small air compressor) where the shower head hose connects to the faucet. The shutoff valve would stop the flow completely.

You can get a full shower shut-off from RV Water Filter Store here - http://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/UsefulGadgets.htm for $4.95 ("Positive Shower"). We have one and there is little of the hot/cold experience. They are made of plastic so we keep a spare because they only last two or three years but at $5 each, we can afford it.

Hey Guys, thanks for the tips.  I'll tell my DH about the suggestions, so he can repair the cold water problem.

Is this still an issue?  I'm confused...if the shower is supposed to drip to prevent this compression connector from blowing then maybe it's better to not modify???

It should never be an issue. When you're hooked up to campground water supply or with your pump on, the system is pressurized the same as when you stop the shower. The compression fittings are designed to take the pressure and shouldn't "blow".

That is correct Fred...The shower shut off valves in most hand held units are not he best design. You can buy a high end hand held shower head that will shut off completely but you have to pay the price. The pressure will have no difference shutting it off at the shower head or shutting it off at the deverter.

I've been using a Camco 43712 RV shower head with an on/off switch. It's perfect for a camper/RV shower. With my camper's genuine shower head you had to switch around just to get wet. No other changes, this one is much better. It's not a forceful waterfall shower head of course, didn't drain the hot water tank too early. It has a nice wide output, just what you need in a camper/RV. And it's been consistent at every site even with all their varying water pressures. I've had it for over 2 years and no reduction in output.

This thread is about 10 years old, so if you are reading it, keep in mind that earlier postings to it may have information that is no longer valid.

Because of its age, I am closing the thread.
