Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello, My name is Julie and my husbands name is Brent. We currently live in FL. We talk about full timing...all the time. Dh retired from the military November 2008. He is currently working another job. I recently left my job to watch our granddaughter so she didn't have to go to daycare. I think what is stopping us is the housing market. We do have lots of stuff too. I am trying to get rid of some things, but it is hard. The big items I have no problem with, it is dishes and things that were our childrens during school years. Lots of papers..etc. I am currently reading the rv dreams journel from the beginning. I pick up all the other blogs and fav place them. Gives me lots of things to read and many ideas. Our RV is a 38 ft toyhauler. So we have 26 feet of living space. We haul 2 Harleys. We have 2 dogs that would go with us too. We did live in the RV in 2008 from June through October. (loved it) Enough rambling....I just have to jump in or I will just continue to read and never post.
He is a few words of wisdom for you to think about. Don't Look Back and say, Why, Look Forward and Say, Why Not. All That STUFF you mentioned, It's Just Stuff. You can check out our Full Time Life Style at our Blog maybe it will help you to decide. All The Best, The Adventure is Calling. Gummy

I've got awhile to go, but I've started purging and my hope is that I remember it every time I try to bring something else into the house.
My problem is my kids are grabbing the stuff that I'm throwing out and it is ending up in their rooms.
I'm thankful that most of my stuff can end up on my computer (music, books, documents & pictures). I'm currently working on scanning my photo albums and then they will disappear.
I also have a Harley (2009 Fat Bob) and am looking at the toy haulers. I can't wait to start the adventure.
Once you start getting rid of the things you haven't even looked at in years, you will find it to be quite liberating.
My hubby and I are winding down our year+ of fulltime RVing - not close to retirement yet, but wanted to enjoy fulltiming and seeing the country while we can. We're thinking of moving to St. Augustine, FL (30 miles south of Jacksonville) when we're done, but not sure yet.
This is Roz, actually Charles and Ethel Henry. Roz is the name of our motorhome.
We have been RVing for some seven years, boats before that. We live in the Arlington-Clifton area. I have learned through boating that people arbitrarily divide themselves as either sailing or power boating enthusiasts. I have found a similar division between motor homes and fifth wheels, but on a much friendlier basis.
We will be marketing our home sometime later this year. Currently we have been spending about 45 to 55 percent of our time on the coach. Last year we workcamped in Maine. Wonderful life! Cannot wait until we are certified gypsies!
If I can help in anyway, 887-2779 wakes me up!

Welcom Julie and Brent....Sherri and I are heading out this Saturday on our adventure we have been planning for the last 35 years. S T U F F ....yes we still have it and Sherri has a hard time parting with it. Each time we go to the barn and look at the S T U F F she takes some out and discards it...being that she forgets what is in each tote tells her she probably does not need it. In time you will do the same thing. Before long all our S T U F F will be gone and we will have more room for something that we really need...like room..HE HE Good luck to you and like everyone says look forward and never back.

I am used to purging stuff, until now we always moved every 3 yrs..give or take a few. WE have been here for 6 yrs. Or I should say I have dh had orders to VA and I stayed in FL. He lived in our other camper during that time. I am slowly working n purging stuff. Every day a little more. We are not buying anything new for the house. :o)
Welcome to the forum from another couple of Harley riders. We have a 41' KZ Escalade toyhauler for our Harley trike. We love full-timing....we've both been through several purges.
Like you, I have moved every 2-3 years all my life so accumulation was way less than someone who has lived in the same house 10-20 years. After my husband passed, I eventually put my house on the market, sold it, gave all the kids stuff to them (as well as whatever they wanted), sold most all my other stuff (after storing 16 totes at my youngest daughter's), contract fell through, lived in folding furniture for 3 months till I finally took it off the market figuring I wasn't meant to RV full-time and rebought most of the stuff I had gotten rid of...LOL!
Six months later the house was back on the market and I was purging again. I finally made it full-time in 10/07 - going from 1600sf to a 26' Class C with no slides. Still carried way too much stuff....wasn't enforcing the one new item in - one old item out either. Went through two purges of stuff over the next 6 months.
Then met my current husband...we then had to merge my stuff into his. Yup, another major purge. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when we removed the last of the stuff stored in my MH (it was in storage), and purged more. Good Will loves us....LOL!
Hubby moved from a house (with his late wife) into a trailer, then into a park model, then into a fifth wheel - each replacing the other on a seasonal lot near the ocean in MD. When they got the toy hauler they equipped it and when they sold the lot they had to merge both RVs into one.
It's never ending.....LOL! Give the kids everything that is yours. Want memories of things, take photos and then back them up! Oh, did I mention that last Thanksgiving I purged my 16 totes down into ONE?
I tackled it one room at a time with a pile/tote for charity - sale - relatives/friends - trash. I ended up shredding 10 large green trash bags, too. Amazing what old records we tend to keep and how many of them have private info on them.
Hello Julie and Brent, We wish you all the best as you contemplate your future plans. Once we got started, we found it very refreshing to be free of so much more 'STUFF". We are full-timing for now, but know eventually we will settle into a house. We put the 'keeper' furniture in a couple of storage units along with any sentimental items. Amazingly, we could fit all the stuff remaining from our 3100 sq ft house into 1-10x20 regular unit and 1-10x10 climate controlled unit - a total of 300 sq ft (stacked pretty high - but still less than 10% of the space we were using). Like the others said, when you tackle it all one room at a time (experienced as you are at packing for frequent moves) you may be surprised at how little you really want to keep. It won't hurt to clear out because at least some say that an uncluttered home shows better. We'll look forward to hearing more from you now that you're out of lurkdom! Blessings!
