Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Trash compactor - anyone use one?

Are trash compactors included on many 5th's or RV's and/or used by anyone? What feedback can you provide and the pro's vs. con's. Thanks.

They occupy far too much space. Space is a premium.
Might be interesting if there ever was a half-sized model.

I came into the RV world a number of years back from the sailing and boating world.  So much of the "living" portion is simply transferable.

We still use a "hand-operated" compactor I purchased from Boater's World.  It is the size of a regular kitchen trash can.  It is made of fiberglass and uses regular draw-string, kitchen-sized trash bags.

The hinged lid has a platen on the underside that is operated while the lid is closed.  It compacts the contents significantly.  Key is all odoriferous refuse needs to be  placed in a zipper plastic bag.

This Swedish built unit for boats fits in the cabinet under the galley sink in out MH.  Again, quite often boating paraphernalia is also great in the RVing world!

Most campgrounds have a trash can located close to each site...and some have bag pickup right off the street every morning. Really no need to compact trash as you can dispose of it on a daily basis. Unlike at sea...trash pick up is once a day.
