Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We have a Midland WR-100 we picked up at Wal-Mart in the Dallas area for about $30. It has S.A.M.E. codes which allow you to limit the alerts to certain counties, which is useful in places like Dallas where the alerts seem to be mostly north of the city. You can get the codes off the internet. This unit will also run off battery for a while, not just from a plug, so you can check it periodically while driving during dangerous times. I am sure there are other units that are just as good, but when we bought it they had them in huge stacks and it has served us well. But it is only as good as the weather service. Yesterday here by Portland, OR we had a t-storm with good wind, lightning and small hail. Just after it passed the weather radio alerted us. Compared to the Midwest, the t-storm was a baby, but we would have liked advance warning.
Edit: We have also received one "Amber Alert" on the radio, which we thought was interesting.

Here's the one I use...battery operation or A/C. Uses SAME codes. The picture on the site show's it in it's stand, but you can take the radio out of the stand, it is portable. I have had this radio for a couple years and it has worked flawlessly.

We have a Reecom 1630 weather radio $60. The best feature it has is the ability to select which alerts set off it's alarm. I have it set to only alarm on Severe Thunderstorm warnings and Tornado warning. That way we're not woken up in the middle of the night by all the different watches that accompany storms like flood watch or severe weather watch. You can still read them on the display and the flashing lights, but you can sleep through the watches and only get woken up when there's a warning. Then you can listen to the alert and decide what to do. http://www.reecominc.com/
We have one from Oregon Scientific, http://www.oregonscientificstore.com/ and have had it for about 10 years. It's been very dependable and still works great.

What ever you get make it simple...My son got mine for me and I have to have him set it up for me...too much Humbo Jumbo written in just to get a weather warning. This thing will change your oil in the truck if you program it right??
