Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We are dreaming of trading our 22' Fleetwood Evolution E3 travel trailer in for a Heartland Cyclone 39' 5th wheel.  We have an F-350 quad cab, long bed truck (about 22').  I'm trying to understand how much longer our whole rig will be with the new camper on a 5th wheel instead of the hitch mount.  Can anybody explain the math to me on this?

Also, any comments on the Cyclone (good or bad) would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Wendy

For purposes of calculation, your trailer will extend back the length from the center of the hitch pin to the rear of the fiver and the truck will go forward from the centerline directly over your rear axle to the front bumper. Add the 2 distances together to get your total length. I would guess it will be about 55-57 feet.

No information on the Cyclone, but hope your truck is a diesel. Any rig that long will be too heavy for a gasser.

Good luck,

After looking in the side mirror and seeing your 22' travel trailer in it for the past few years.

When you look in the side mirror and see the 39' fifth wheel back there, it will seem like you're towing a house.

That's how long you'll be.... LOL

Let's see take your 8 foot p/u bed and cut it in half so that would be 4 feet from the hitch to the tailgate, so your truck would be 18 feet in front of the fifth wheel.

18 feet + 39 feet = about 57 feet.

That's how we measure things here in the government.

Fred has the right way of measuring in his reply above.

Anyway sounds like a nice setup. Enjoy all the room you'll have with the new 5th wheel.
