Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Car Insurance for Tow Car

We have been fulltiming for almost 5 years (no house) and have had our tow car (Jeep) insured with Progressive all that time.  On our recent renewal, our rate went up almost 20% (thankfully, no accidents or claims...just an increase in rates).

In the process of seeking other quotes, we are running into an issue we wonder if any of you fulltimers have experienced.  Many insurance underwriters state they won't write coverage because we are out of our home state.  Almost all applications ask 'where is the vehicle kept?'.  Well, it's kept either behind the MH when we're towing or parked near it when we're in an RV park.....the field for the response to this question is intended for a zip code.

Any recommendations on insurance underwriters who understand the fulltime lifestyle.  I suppose we could just input the zip code for where we get our mail but we want to be legal and certain we have valid insurance in the event we should ever need it.

Thank you all for your ideas.

We've had our trailer and truck registered in Wisconsin since we came out 3 years ago. They are both insured by National Interstate. They know we are only there for visits occasionally.

Also, would you believe, I have had 2 accidents with the truck and one with the trailer, and they still haven't raised our rates???? I don't believe it either, but it's true.

You must have an address and zip code where your MH & toad are registered, just use them.

Good luck,

We had Progressive over 10 years ago on our TT, no problems but no claims. We were not full timing though. We later went with GMAC through Good Sam, had one major claim on the TT with no problems. When we went full time we went with Miller Insurance. Miller’s appears to cater to the RV world and full timers. This is the same broker Howard and Linda use I believe. Our main concern was exactly yours. We use my brother-in-law’s address as our domicile and have a PMB in California since we still are working while living in a RV Park. Give Millers a call they may be your answer. You can find the info and link on RV-Dreams site.
