Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
So I just learned what a lurker is and worse, I realized that I was one - until now, so here goes. Carrie & I plan to fulltime within the next 12 months. We now live in the Florida Keys & love it but miss mountains, the smell of pine forrests, & different seasons (its always summer here). We look forward to traveling to different places. For financial reasons, we plan to work for a portion of the year, I think ~3 months full time, the rest of the year off. Carrie is a nurse, & at 50, I've worked as an engineer & an architect, I'm going on faith that we can find temporary work assignments in interesting places (or uninteresting if necessary). Its the only aspect that I'm pretty nervous about, being accustomed to a steady paycheck and all.... After much reading on this website, I think we will opt for a fifth wheel & a big ol' truck to pull it. We're going to the Tampa RV show this weekend to narrow the choices and learn about options. After choosing one, I'll pick out a truck. We'll probably buy both used to save $. I'm greatly encouraged by all of the advice & community spirit here on this site & would greatly appreciate any advice or thoughts about our plans. You guys are great!
If you plan to work I'd say the first thing you want to do is join Workamper News.com. There are opportunities all over the country and with your backgrounds you shouldn't have any problems finding positions. We are planing on workamping this year also, mostly because I need a little something to keep me busy and out of the recliner. I have other sites to check out also if you are interested, you can contact me through our web site. Have fun at the RV Show and we are in N. Ft. Myers just off I 75 if you would like to stop by and chat about the full time life style. Best of Luck Jim & Jane Montgomery A.K.A. The Gummy's

Welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to join in.
Be sure to ask a lot of questions before buying your rig. There's lots to consider.

Jim is right. You need to know your Needs. How much time have you spent together in 400 sq feet? When you go and look at these RVs be sure you set on the toilet stand in the shower make the bed go in the closets to get your clothes. Make a sandwhich in the kitchen...imagine all your cooking needs spread out on the counter top...do you have room?? Plumbing fixtures are they residential drawer guides heavy duty? Carpet...residential good pad...insulation..framing...Do you have enough storage space for what you have. Bedroom storage drawers closets. The list goes on and on and I am sure that many of the folks on this forum will add to my list. Before you buy anything...like Jim says...get all the feedback you can from the folks here that live in RVs. The information you will gather here will be good to have when you go and look at different models. Remeber this... pretty is not always good. You want something that will stand the test of time on the road.
Welcome to the forum. We too figure we will need to work. We have joined Workamper News, Coolworks and some of the other forums. Every day we get an email that lists jobs that give us an idea of some positions that are out there. There seems to be a whole lot of different ways folks make ends meet. I'm sure you'll find what works for you. Good luck and glad to meet you here.

Thanks everybody for your words of encouragement! We went to the Tampa show last weekend and are now in the process of narrowing down our choices on a fifth wheel - its dizzying but I enjoy the process.
Just wanted to say hi! We are also new to the forum. Our plans are similar, we will be hittiing the road in the fall. I am a "retired" nurse after 17 years and a bad foot! My husband is on Veterans disability. We will have to do some working and some low cost camping but I think we can swing it. We also have decided to buy a used 5th wheel. So far we are only looking.....have to wait on the house to sell first, but we have decided to get something under 30 feet. We want to be able to get to some places that people with the big rigs cannot!! Keep in touch, I would like to hear how your plans are moving along. The Keys can't be all that bad, we are the middle of an ice storm right now!!!
