Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

A Great Place to Stop in Mobile Alabama

Every time we go thru Mobile Alabama on I-10, we can see the U.S.S.  Alabama battle ship off in  the distance.  I never stopped because I didn't know if there was a parking area for the 5th wheel, so I just waved and kept going.  This time I  did a little research and found out there was a very nice state park on Exit 30.  (Exit 30 just happens to be Battleship Road.)  The park is called Meaher State Park.  This place is wonderful!  All paved roads and sites, full hookups, level, tall pine trees and a view of the bay.  25 bucks a night.  Just thought you ought to know.  I haven't seen it mentioned in any of my  campground directories.    Dave

Also, if you have a few days in the area, Rainbow Plantation is not very far from Mobile. That the Escapees Park in Summerdale, AL. They have nice large sites and lots of activities.

I wish we could get more of this kind of information on the forum. It is so good to see folks post good places to stay and share their trips and where they stay with all us. We could have a great directory of best places to stay right here on this forum.

I'm with you there, Speedy. I am especially interested in State Parks. That seems to be the hardest for us---finding State Parks that can handle our 40 foot fifth wheel. You can't always rely on what the individual state's web pages list and a lot of them are lacking in even the most basic information. Would be nice to hear some reviews from an rv'ers point of view.

Hi Debbie,  I can tell you that Meaher State Park, in Mobile, can definitely handle a 40 ft. rig with no problem.    Dave

We were just at Meaher State Park yesterday to use their boat ramp to do some kayaking. The sites there for 40+ rigs are abundant, and the views are as good as you can get. If you were there you would almost feel like you were the only ones there, because the sites are spaced nicely.

On the other hand, we happen to be parked at Styx River RV Resort and we are tight, tight, tight, and as close as 32 miles + to the nearest grocery store. If it wasn't for our association and the small cost of staying, we would be at Meaher.
