Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

I just read an article on RV Industury News this morning, where Teton says that the rumor is untrue. They are not closing their doors, or laying off workers.

I've done some searching to no avail and subscribe to several RV Industry news feeds and have not seen this one.

If it was mentioned on a forum - especially RV.net - I'd have a hard time believing it until I saw some substantiation. The rv.net posting is also highly suspicious indicating it was hearsay that someone (on a Yahoo forum no less) saw a "going out of business" poster in a unit for sale at the Hershey show. Here's the link. Getting even more suspicious - especially when you throw in hearsay from a Yahoo forum.

I tried to call Teton this morning but it's too early out in Wyoming.

Rumors spread like wildfire on the Internet. Just look at what happened to United Airlines Stock a couple days ago. A 2-year old news article about them looking at bankruptcy was erroneously catapulted to the top of the news - people MISSED the 2-year old aspect - and UAL stock dropped some 90% in 2 minutes. The exchange finally halted trading the stock a few minutes later and UAL had to correct the mis-promoted OLD news story. I suspect thousands of people lost potentially millions of dollars in that debacle.

We all know the old adage - Just because your read it on the Internet does not make it true. Especially on a forum.

So, given this is on a forum, maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't believe it either?smile

Got off the phone with my Sales Rep on Wednesday, the news article is incorrect. His TETON District Rep says that the Oil field rigs (stationary) will go through restructuring, but the 5th wheel division is not going to stay. Closed.........

That has us looking once again for a comparable 5'er. I'd like to see an independent quality business take up the slack with a few designs that could be modified to fit your needs.

Here's an interesting article from RV Travel. Excellent information for anyone considering buying an RV in the near time future.

"The RV market continues down a slippery slope of sales. Wholesale shipments plummeted a whopping 44 percent last month over a year ago. The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) reports that overall wholesale shipments in August totaled 16,900 units compared to 30,400 in August, 2007. Travel trailer sales were down nearly 23 percent. Class A motorhome shipments tanked a staggering 69 percent from 2,900 units a year ago to a measly 900 units last month.

As reported on RVbusiness.com, Kathryn Thompson, analyst with Avondale Partners LLC, noted: "August's 69 percent decrease in Class A shipments likely marks the death rattle for any motorhome manufacturers on the ropes. We anticipate additional manufacturer and dealer failures, as we enter the seasonally slow fall period."

What does this mean for RV buyers? Two things:
The Good News
(1) RV dealers are hurting because nobody is buying: you can probably get a deal better than any time in recent years.

The Bad News
(2) Watch out that the RV you buy is from a healthy manufacturer. If it's gasping for breath, proceed with caution. If it goes belly up, so will the warranty on your new RV. That is a very bad thing."

I was at a dealer yesterday, and no one seemed to be interested in selling me an RV.  They are probably still looking for my husband.

You have to find another dealer. I can't believe any serious dealer isn't salivating at the thought of a real customer.

Trust me, it's probably never been more of a buyers for RV's in the last 30 years.
