Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hoping to Fulltime Soon!!

I've been lurking for a couple of months reading through the different topics and also following Howard & Linda on their journeys.  Your excitement rubbed off on us & we finally made the decision to fulltime.   We considered it 5 years ago but decided we didn't want to give up a home and instead decided to build our dream home..a log house.  We love it, but after living here for 3 years we've had enough of working in the yard and keeping up a big house.  We put the house up for sale in May and are still waiting for the 1st prospect!!  Yes, the housing market is lousy, but surely someone will come along and love our home.  In the meantime, we're doing a lot of research trying to decide between 5th wheels, motorhomes, and a great Class C by Conquest/Gulfstream (SuperNova).  We spend 4 months in the Keys during the winter and have a 5th wheel there, but we'll sell that one.  We spent this morning here in Alabama fertilizing roses, pulling weeds, and weed-eating in 85 degrees.  Don't want to do that any longer!!

I'm really glad I found this forum as it seems like a real friendly group of people...just like the people we spend the winter with.  Never knew them 5 years ago, but now many of them are our best friends.  There's not a better group of people than RVers and I'm looking forward to being part of this "family."  Wish us luck with the sale of our home, because then we're outta here ASAP! wink

Welcome to the forum. smile

Yes this is a real friendly group. All questions and comments are welcome and you never have to worry that you are asking a "dumb" question. There is no such thing as a "dumb" question on this site.

Good luck in selling your house, we know what you are talking about when you talk about maintaining a yard. After awhile, it's just not fun anymore.

Welcome! We left a house, yard and all that work four years ago and haven't looked back. I don't think we'll ever own a house again. Good luck with selling the house, it will happen eventually. Take this time to find just the right RV for you. Enjoy the process!

Welcome to the group! Pam and I have been enjoying the wisdom and wit of the RV-Dreams community now for many months. We follow Howard's journal every day and I agree--there isn't a friendlier bunch I am aware of.

Good luck with you log cabin sale!

Kay and Wayne - I agree. You will love it here. We, too, are trying to sell. We listed in April, have had 3 showings. No sale yet! Our plan is to be on road 2/1/09 if house is sold. Can't do both, own a home and fulltime RV.

So, let's hope for all of us that things turn around quickly and we meet down the road.

Welcome for another wannabe. We hope to take to the road some day also. We havent listed our house in Florida yet due to the market. Hopefully it will recover.
We now have a 31 ft trailer but have been looking at both class a's and 5th wheels. I love the feeling of a home in a 5th wheel but the cost keeping the big truck to tow with is a problem for us with the gas prices. We are now thinking maybe motor home and that way can tow a small car that will be better on fuel. Not sure which way we will go.
Enjoy these forums, everyone is great. Have you joined in on chat yet. Its alot of fun.
Safe travels.
Arlene

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!  Looks like there are several of us just waiting for our homes to sell so we can join all you full-timers.  The market is really slow right now and our only hurry to sell is so we can start this new phase in our life.  Once we made the decision, we wanted to start right away.  So now we have to gather up some patience and just wait it out.  We do spend the winter months in the Keys in our current 5th wheel, so we consider ourselves lucky to be part-timers.

I think the hardest part of this decision is going to be what type of rig to buy.  I love the 5th wheel we have because it seems more like a home, but since we've stored it in FL for the past 5 years and it's been constantly exposed to the salt air, there's quite a bit of rusting on the under-carriage and my husband doesn't think it's road-worthy.  Besides, we'd like to have a newer rig.  My DH doesn't particularly want to pull a 5th wheel and likes the idea of the Gulfstream SuperNova which is a "big" Class C.  I keep telling him that we'll lose 5-6 ft of space due to it being a "C".  I've been in some beautiful motorhomes, but they're still not as "homey" as a 5th wheel.  Soooo, we have a problem here!! hmm  I have to tell you that we're best friends, married 42 years, and never argue.  But we're going to have to do some serious thinking and have some serious conversations before we make a decision on our full-timer home.  Anyone else out there have this problem??  I'd be open to any comments. smile

The decision of which kind of RV to purchase for Full-timing is many times a problem.

You've been married for 42 years, so I'm sure you both have had to make compromises throughout the years. This will probably be another one.  Like you said, some serious thinking and conversations are needed, but I'm sure you can work it out.

Believe it or not, the freedom of going Full-Timing is much more important than what kind of RV you do it in. smile The main thing is that you "do it"!

Good Luck,

Jim

Kay and Wayne...it is soooo nice to have you as part of this family. We too had to sell our house before we could even think about moving on. We put it on the market in March and we just now sold it. Hey!!! You too will sell yours and then you can really get down to RV shopping. As Jim said it does not matter what kind of RV you have... it is the fulltiming that makes it all worth while. Again Sherri and I would like to welcome you and hope that we hear from you time to time.

Joe and Sherri

Welcome aboard Kay and Wayne! Isn't this fulltiming thing a beautiful dream that will eventually come true. We are too waiting for our house to get sold so that we can be fulltimers.

We made the decision to full time almost 2 years ago. House went on the market a year ago. we are with the 2nd realtor. Wish we had put on the market immediately and sold as is instead of putting 20 thousand in updates, etc. Think it would have sold before the recession.

Hi Kay and Wayne,

Welcome! Gayle and I had the same struggle. We looked at just about everything out there. 5'ers and motorhomes. She wanted a fifth, I wanted MH. Then we both want a MH and then we went back to a 5'er. We were going nuts........................5'er had more living space, MH, easier to set up. Finally ended up with a Mobile Suites and a F450. We both love it but secertly I do admire a fine shiney Motor Home with a tag axel glemming in the Sun, Don't tell Gayle I said that.................just kidding. Welcome!

Kay and Wayne....
We too have been lurkers for a long time and finally decided that we would join the forum. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful.

Isn't it really hard to have to wait until a house sells, or as in our case, to be free from work to be able to move ahead with fulltime plans?

Like a child waiting for Christmas!! Hope you see that house sell QUICK !!!
