MH's Built for Fulltiming

We have looked at the Monaco Diplomat and the Holiday Rambler. Last Nov we were in a Tiffin and figured it was out of our price range. This last weekend we were combing over a Tiffin Pheaton QTH at a dealer and now have our eyes set on it.

We are planning to tour the factory in Red Bay, AL plus a couple of dealers nearby to learn more. Our target date is still Spring 2009 so we are learning all we can. So far the Phaeton looks best.

It really depends on what you are looking for as to 'what is best for full-timing' and we learned the answers to those as we started visiting dealerships, driving some. It helps to be always asking and looking and learning (as you are doing now)...

Gotta say you are looking at a good MH. We had an Allegro MH at one time and it was and oldie but goodie. They also stand behind theyre MH's.

Tiffin is a great brand and there are many happy fulltimers with both their gas and diesel motorhomes. Some good friends, who have fulltimed for 16 years, are happy with their Allegro Bay. We have a Newmar and they are also very popular with fulltimers.

We are about 8 months away from geting real serious about locating our motorhome. I have spent a lot of time doing on-line research that includes picking brains of people whose opinions I value. We have narrowed our choices to the following manufacturers: Tiffin, Newmar and Winnebago. Diesel only. And possibly a used but lovingly cared for Foretravel without slides. Those coaches retain a lot of value and so they are expensive even when 8 to 10 year old.

Thank you all for your opinions. Information is wonderful. The Allegro Bay we looked at is a new 37' with 4 slides, gas or diesel whichever we decide to go with. Salesman said he could have it for us in 30 days. The price he gave us on the gas was $90,000. and roughly 130,000 on the diesel.

Some additional thought regarding the Allegro Bay. If you plan to buy the gas powered model, you might want to follow up with the link given in the post by Bill Joyce. Here is my take on that listing.

A new rig will have problems to be fixed, not that you can't have them in used, but things like leaks are generally taken care of by the first owner. A used rig will be done off-gassing fromaldehyde fumes, which makes for a healthier environment for you. You will take a much smaller depreciation hit with a used motor home than with a new one.

The rig advertised in the above link has a lot of expensive additional equipment that you won't get in the $90,000 new model.

Finally, in today's economy $110,000 is way too high. My guess is that in 6 weeks or 3 months he will be more interested in taking a lower -- but fair -- offer.

You might also go to the Escapees.com web site. Click onto the forum and search for diesel vs gas. You will find a lot of information you have not even thought off. Also search, which rig is best for fulltiming.

Good luck. You will be on the road before us, so don't forget to leave the lgiht on. biggrin
